Worldwide intellectual property filing activity rebounded in 2020 illustrating the resilience of human innovation amid the global pandemic, WIPO’s World Intellectual Property Indicators Report (WIPI) showed.
Governments and enterprises in many parts of the world scaled up investments in innovation amid the massive human and economic toll of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Global Innovation Index 2021 revealed. Switzerland, Sweden, U.S., and U.K. continue to lead the innovation ranking, with the Republic of Korea joining the top five.
WIPO’s new “Young Experts Program” (YEP) initiative is aimed at forging the next generation of intellectual property leaders. Successful applicants will join a two-year program hosted at WIPO designed to expose young people with high potential, particularly from developing and least developed countries as well as countries in transition, to the technical and policy aspects of IP.
