  • As far as SEO and fast loading pages go, webp images is something Google and other search engines reward site owners for, but the premier SEO plugin for WordPress can’t get support for webp going?

Are you referring to the Facebook meta fields? It is odd that they don’t support WebP uploads yet there. But they do with the Twitter meta right below it.

However, WordPress 5.8 just started supporting WebP uploads. So that is a fairly new development to allow you to upload WebP directly into the media library. I’m sure Yoast will catch up with this soon.

    Hi @mddsharp,

Thanks for your review and for suggesting a new feature for our plugin. You are actually not the first to have requested this feature. That means a feature request is already created and is currently under review by our product team.

For now, you can only use the file types of JPEG, PNG, and GIF to set as the og:image tag for the Facebook image in the social tab of the Yoast SEO meta box. WEBP isn’t supported at this time, but please do check our changelog and release posts from time to time for upcoming features and additions to the Yoast SEO plugin.
