Progressive College, established in 1986, is a private third-level institution specialised in the provision of courses in childcare, Montessori education, healthcare[1] and special needs.[2][better source needed] The college was formerly known as the College of Progressive Education and before that as both the School of Practical Child Care and the School of Health and Social Care. The college developed some of the first courses for Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) in the 1990s.
Since 2003 the college has been a recognised provider of Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) qualifications with its programmes aligned to the Irish Government's National Framework of Qualifications; it was previously registered with FETAC.
The college's courses are delivered in centres throughout Ireland, including Dublin city, Blackrock, Templeogue, Tallaght, Swords, Killarney, Galway, Tralee, and Cork city. The college provides full and part time courses and a number of its programmes are available via distance learning. The online learning programmes are a combination of a mix of live and interactive webinars, pre-recorded and on demand lectures, group chat/forums and classroom sessions.[3][better source needed]
Students who complete the QQI Level 6 Childcare and Montessori programme can pursue a number of progression routes with other institutions to degree level. Healthcare training programmes include QQI Level 5 courses in elder care, healthcare support and nursing studies.
