Thanks. That's unbelievably dumb on SourceForge's part. Defaulting to the wrong OS is one thing, but not offering a choice is incompetent. I must've ended up at that page by using a link in a comment or article.
Oh I see what happened now. The snapshot you showed is not our page. That one was from by Sourceforge, and we have no control over what they do. I recommend not using their page - especially for this very reason. (Their thing is confusing since it randomly picks an OS, when you would expect it sense your platform type and send you the correct one. It doesn't.) Please use the official OTS Download page: http://opentaxsolver.sourceforge.net/download2020.html You can always get to the current download...
Thanks for the replies. The Download button doesn't go there, though. Screen shots attached.
When I go to the OTS downloads page, I see downloads for all three operating systems. http://opentaxsolver.sourceforge.net/download2020.html I don't see it forcing any OS. Actually there are three areas to enter your property (stock / fund) information: Basis-reported (A/D), Basis-not-reported (B/E), and Neither (C/F). The program then determines if each entry is Short or Long by your Buy/Sell dates. And then it checks the appropriate boxes for you. For example if the basis was reported, then A if Short-gain, or D for Long-gain. Etc.. Hope this helps, and good question.

CA540 Line 92 - No way to fill in ISR Coverage Checkbox
Good catch. Will add an entry for the Line-92 checkbox in future versions. However, you should also be aware that you can always add any additional mark-ups yourself. Just add a "markup" command to the bottom of your input file, as documented here: http://opentaxsolver.sourceforge.net/MarkupPDF.html. In your case, the following line will do the trick: MarkupPDF( 3, 140, 932 ) CkBox92 = X You could also check that box with a pen on your printed form. But the electronic markup method is automatic,...
ISR Penalty Line 92 – Individual Shared Responsibility (ISR) Penalty Enter your Individual Shared Responsibility Penalty from form FTB 3853, Health Coverage Exemptions and Individual Shared Responsibility Penalty, Part IV, line 1. If you, your spouse/RDP (if filing a joint return), and anyone you can or do claim as a dependent had minimum essential coverage (also referred to as qualifying health care coverage) that covered all of 2020, check the “Full-year health care coverage? box on Form 540, line...

The GUI or saved .txt file does not indicate A, B, C, D, E, or F for each property (stock / fund). All are fixed to A or E.

The amount on the comment line of the 8889 form was corrected and was uploaded without changing the version number, since it does not affect the functionality. I could not replicate your observation about lines 6+8 not showing up in the PDF. The example included in the package shows those numbers in the PDF.

I discovered another bug when filling out the PDF form. Lines 6 and 8 are supposed to be filled in but they're left blank by the form filler. In my case this has no effect on the result in line 13

Just to be clearer, I have populated the Dep1_Relation field in the .txt file, but the contents are not rendering in the .pdf.

Upon further review (and some screwing around with the code), it seems that the only effect the threshold/senior/blind check has is to leave line 40 blank or fill it in. The value in line 41 stays the same either way. The calculation of line 41 is done earlier in schedules H and COJ. If we really want line 40 to be 0, we should not subtract property taxes in calculating line 41. If I seem confused it is because I am.

I have read all the above and the instructions and I am quite confused. It seems to me that the code, as implemented in 18.07 is saying: if (income LT threshold) OR (over 65) OR (blind) then not eligible for deduction. Perhaps I am misreading the code but this just seems wrong. Perhaps it wants to be: if (income LT threshold) AND (over 65 OR blind) then not eligible for deduction. They can't want you ineligible just for being over 65, can they? NJ could have found a way to make this simpler.
