Very pleased to present Pink Cell Tower, commissioned by & for Skulpturenpark Berlin. A work of 'extroverted infrastructure', this fully functional & open source cell tower is designed to be seen, departing from the innocuous, monitored & privately owned towers we use each day

Nostalgic for when 'the rise of the machines' felt like our primary existential threat

Happy to share a new version of the Art+Culture Manifesto I created in 2020. It is a “non perfect” “not yet complete” document that contains some of the ideas I have been sharing with peers during the past years. Design: Finella Halligan.

Not even the people burning down the Amazon for soy monocultures will try to pretend it’s for making tofu.

New - WhatsApp can be told by US to provide data on any user, anywhere, without showing probable cause. Feds don't even need to know the identities of WhatsApp users it’s targeting, as in an unreported investigation into Chinese opioid sellers:

Thankfully there has been some incredible innovation in pineapple & mycelium 'leathers', alongside companies making quality outdoor gear out of recycled plastic (still unclear if the latter is not akin to CO2e offsets, however). Anyway, this is good stuff:

One of the more wicked problems of 'living green' is not wanting to buy wool (land stress, animal Ag) or leather (animal Ag, poisonous to rivers & producers, exploitative labour), & so then defaulting to microfibers, which are themselves human & eco-toxic. Of this I am guilty

I remember just a few years ago '2050' was the prediction. I ache for our home planet, what we have done to it.

"The air we breathe now contains plastic micro particles, there is plastic in Arctic snow, plastic in soils and plastic in our food" The report from the Environmental Investigation Agency argues we're approaching peak toxicity. Plastic is becoming to us, what lead was to Rome

Plastic is a poison that has become a glue layer of modern life; the Internet, our food systems, power grids (etc) all depend on it. We need to reduce dependence on these materials, research & transition to alternatives, just as with other fossil products

Heaps more, but I'll leave it there. You're very welcome. Will finish on some rock/water/sunlight bliss, where I filled my bottle

Where the trees are forests. Here's the tree (whose trunk you see in the last few frames of that video). Many hundreds of years old. I believe this is a great Northern Rātā. The respect it commands

Climbed 400m up a near vertical face through fern and giant grasses to find a plateau, home of giants, a world unto itself

Next 2 days totally off-grid (no GSM, data) on a conservation mission in steep rainforest country. Big blade, the Kukri, is for getting through non-native gorse & blackberry (nothing heinous!) en route. Be safe all (me too I guess)

Poetic really, that a cartographic platform becomes the final and incumbent grip to escape. With mean colonial cunning, Google literally have the terrain

I run a de-Google'd phone, use anonymised SE, no GMail, GG docs or any GG platform except Google Maps. I keep falling back to it. It's painfully good at what it does. Route planning & sat imagery is ++. OSM, which I use & value, isn't close. I know why, just wish it weren't so
