  2. Today we should talk about “keeping the same energy” Deafies, yall can’t get mad when Hollywood cast hearing people for Deaf roles and then turn around and praise a Deaf-sighted person for a Deaf-Blind role. That “Deaf First” way of thinking is very damaging. Check your privilege

When will wheelchair technology catch up to bike technology? Why does my electric wheelchair weigh 500lbs and cost $30,000+? When will there be a wheelchair equivalent to the e-bike?

  5. Minoritized by Deaf, blind, & nondisabled ppl, DeafBlind ppl deserve better, & why retell a white disabled woman’s story? I’m frustrated by tepid disabled activists, me included, mainly white & company-paid who unthinkingly praise nonprogress crumbs.

  6. I know many#Deafblind people with powerful stories to share. I’m sad Hollywood keeps reducing us to a single story. Once again they cast a sighted actor to pretend to be blind. When will Hollywood show the stories of Deafblind people of color?

  7. Helen Keller film sparks debate after Deaf actress Millicent Simmonds cast in DeafBlind role as a sighted person, I am disappointed they didn't choose someone who is deafblind. It's a different lived experience.

Not completely okay with a sighted deaf person playing a deaf blind person in a movie.

1/4 As screen reader users point out how annoying the 🚩 meme is, I see others make the tired argument that screen readers need to update their code. Not that folks could maybe use fewer flags. Screen readers are installed software. Users would need to upgrade. Many cannot.

Hire disabled people. Now, not in 10 years. Hire a diverse group of disabled people. Offer part-time & remote. Hire disabled people for senior roles, not just internships and junior roles. Hire disabled people, and then support them to remain at work.

  18. Discourse around the bad art friend ignores how the writer co-opted the experiences of the person who received the kidney. This happens to disabled people over and over again. Writers, if you feel inspired by a disabled person, pause and take time to listen. 2/3

  19. Writers, disabled people don’t exist for your exploitation. It’s just art, they say. Disabled people asked for representation, they say. Don’t you dare. A thread.

I would add all the social media companies, and on this list. They are doing nothing. I'm sure they think they're doing something. But compared to the scale, nothing.

I have arrived at a new appreciation for the phrase “blind leading the blind” after reading ’s memoir. Of fucking course blind people should be mentoring and teaching blind people. They’re the fucking experts!
