WIPO Japan Office

The WIPO Japan Office promotes WIPO's global IP services for patents, trademarks and industrial designs, as well as its global databases, IP Advantage and multi-stakeholder initiatives, to Japanese users. We do this through the website, seminars, training, publications, and local customer service as well as other activities in conjunction with Japan Funds-In-Trust and the Japanese government.

GII 2021

Launch of the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2021

The Global Innovation Index (GII) 2021 was released on September 20, 2021. Under the theme of "Tracking Innovation through the COVID-19 Crisis", the GII 2021 looks at the innovation performance of 132 economies as well as the impact of the pandemic over the past year. Japan has moved up 3 places from last year and is now ranked 13th.

Films on Asian innovators

In cooperation with the Japan Funds-in-Trust, we produce short documentaries featuring innovators from the Asia-Pacific region. These films bring to life various success stories, including those highlighted in the IP Advantage database.

The Honmono (Genuine Goods) manga is the result of a 2010 national competition, in cooperation with the Japan Patent Office and Kadokawa Group Publishing, to explain the importance of trademarks and the dangers of counterfeit goods.
