Have you spent any time with Genesis Custom Blocks (was Block Lab before WPEngine bought them)? https://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-custom-blocks/ …
-
Yep, I’ve checked it out! Very fast scaffolding of editable fields, but doesn’t create a WYSIWYG experience for editing. It’s like… you click… and then it hides the rendered block and shows you a bunch of fields. Which is the right choice for *some* types of blocks.

You had me at "without a build step"
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I've built too many toy implementations of this. My interest here is that you can make those components easily cacheable for great performance. This also reminded me of Facebook's XHP (had to google to find that again)https://github.com/hhvm/xhp-lib

It’s dynamically writing out inline React code for now, but there’s no reason it couldn’t cache the compilation, or even write it to a JS file.

I love this idea. Just wondering how it would translate with intricate components in the block edit property, or editorial only items like toolbars or inspector controls. Is there a repo kicking around?

Who knows, one step at a time :)

That's the idea we built upon to bridge the gap between our legacy team and
#Gutenberg. I wrote 2 blog posts about our process and results if by any chance it adds to your thinkings and keep the conversation going. https://bit.ly/32b9zmz https://bit.ly/3ooyrAy
