AAA GARDEN CTR INC

Some of the work they did was very good and some was very bad. The yard cleanup was done pretty well. I would describe the sod work as a "D". Their timeliness was unreliable and the quality of the sod was substandard. The quality of lying the sod was only average. I would not use them again for sod. They didn't show up when they said they would. I felt that some of the time I was lied to. They were originally a sod company and expanded into the nursery business. I could understand if they had problems with the nursery part but the problem was with the sod. They were too expensive for the sod work; they were overpriced. I would not use them again. The quality of the plants were good but the sod was bad. It was a very unpleasant experience.

DELTA BLUEGRASS COMPANY
5.0
I chose this company based on reviews elsewhere. The quality of sod delivered was excellent--attractive and freshly cut. The team that installed the sod knew what they were doing, and effectively installed into all the irregular curved shapes. The sod took well--everything was alive and well months later. I think it helped to have Delta Bluegrass people arrange the installation, because this reduced the time between when the sod was cut at their farm and when it was installed in my yard (a few hours later), which probably gives the sod the best start. Plus their installation people cost no more than any other choice.

Acer Landscaping & Tree Care, Inc.

Eli's team was fantastic. Arrived when they said they would, with all the necessary tools and materials on hand. The team was extremely fast and thorough, and very polite on top of that. They were very accommodating with a last minute add we requested and have followed up after the job to make sure everything is working well. We will definitely hire Acer again.

Very professional and arrived on time every day. We asked Sergieo to make a circle in the center of the lawn because we were going to move a bird bath into the circle. When we came back from doing some shopping we noticed that he and his helper had mover the bird bath for us. He went the extra mile.

I am extremely pleased with the job that SOD Builders did for me: a full kitchen remodel, including a complete gut and redesign of the room. The quality of their work was top-notch, the workers were always professional, respectful, and friendly. In particular, SOD's designer was very helpful in bringing my vision to life. No project of this magnitude is completely glitch free, but SOD was very responsive to my every request. This is not a contractor you have to worry about deserting you mid-job. The answer to the ultimate question "Would I hire them again for other work?" is "Absolutely". Though it took a bit longer than I would have liked to complete the job, in the end I couldn't be happier with the results. I will enjoy this space for decades to come.

Landscaping Bay Area
3.0
The owner initially came to my home to assess the work I needed to have done. He is very knowledgeable about landscaping. The time he spent upfront was greatly appreciated as he fully understood to my landscaping needs. He had great ideas on how to replant a tree, recommend how to control grubs and how to properly care for specific plants. Once the project began the owner was no longer involved. In fact, I never saw him again. In addition to his landscaping services I had him give me a bid for painting my new fence and yard fence. The painting itself was very nicely done however, the worker(s) were careless and left several oil based paint spots damaging 15-20 of my brand new pavers. When I addressed this with The Owner he replied via email his worker(s) told him they didn’t do it. I provided pictures of the pavers as proof to substantiate my claim. The Owner had his lead come by our home to fix a sprinkler head that was covered during sod repair and to remove these stains. When I reached out to The Owner again he solely relied upon his lead who promptly told him the oil based paint stains were removed. The stains still remain, I’ve contacted my pavers company who clearly stated “oil based paint cannot be removed!” It became blatantly obvious the owner was siding with employee. In fact, The Owner not once has stepped foot on my property since he took the bid. He never came to oversee the project and all contact with him has been via email or text. Lastly, we were in agreement to plant a new tree. As of this review, I have never heard back and there was never any follow up as to when this would be done. I really had high hopes In the beginning and I am very disappointed in The Owner’s project management. He appears to be knowledgeable but my recommendation is that he needs to manage his team, stay closer to the project and make an attempt to do a final walk through. Lastly his hourly bill rate was inconsistent vs. negotiated. Hourly rate doubled for final day of painting which I regretfully paid.

Acer Landscaping & Tree Care, Inc.

Extremely well. Eli is a master at communication, kept me informed of movements of his team; timing and adhered to that timing. They were respectful of special circumstances (dog). Acer Team cleaned up the site each evening when they were complete. Eli checked for feedback on the progress at key steps along the way. Perfect performance and professional approach.

SOD Home Group

Overall, SOD was outstanding to work with. We bought our house last year (May 2014) and knew right away we wanted to do a remodel to make a master suite. This being our first home and first experience doing a remodel we were a little nervous about the whole process, but SOD made it pretty painless and the outcome is beautiful. We used our own designer for the design of of our remodel, but we have no doubt SOD would have designed something beautiful as well. We bid out our project to 3 contractors total and SOD came in right in the middle (everyone was very close to each other though). We ultimately decided to go with SOD because we really liked their responsiveness to all our questions during the bidding process and their customer portal they have where you can see pics of your project along the way, do change orders online, and communicate with all their staff very easily. We are busy people who both work full time so we knew we needed a contractor who was going to be really great with communication (email, text, etc.) and SOD 100% delivered on that. We also really liked that they didn't sub out a lot of the work/that they had their own crews for plumbing, electrical, painting, foundation, demo., etc. We saw this really made a difference compared to friends who used contractors who subcontracted a lot of the work out because it allowed us to stay on schedule and not wait for anyone for the next step in the remodel/construction. Our project took about 3- 3/12 months, which was right on schedule and often times we were way ahead of schedule. Eran was our project manager and was fantastic and very helpful along the way. Oren, the owner, is 100% committed to customer service and always wants you to be happy. Their office staff is also great and much more organized than others we have heard about from friends who have done big construction projects although there were some coordination issues at times, but not a big deal overall. Now, this is all not to say that everything went perfectly smoothly. There were hiccups along the way, but they were minor and SOD always listened to our concerns and complaints, addressed them pretty immediately, and worked with us for a solution. We truly believe that with any good contractor you will have problems along the way, but how they respond and how they deal with those problem is the real way to judge a company. SOD prides itself on customer service and we can attest to the fact that they live up to their word. At the end of the day, they want you to be happy with the work and will work tirelessly to make that happen. All of the crews were wonderful, respectful, and the hardest workers we have ever seen. It was not uncommon for them to start their day at 8 am at our house and not leave until 7-8 pm. They also came on weekends (they always made sure this was OK for us) and they were all a true pleasure to work with. In the end, we went just 8-10 K over the bid price due to unforeseen issues that were no fault to SOD or upgrades we decided on later. We are extremely happy with SOD and plan to use them in the future for other remodel projects that we have planned. We have recommended them to others and would do so in a heartbeat for anyone looking for a great company to work on their house!

Samayoa Landscaping
5.0
We found Samayoa Landscaping on Angies List, and are so glad we did. The sod part of our yard is about 900 sq feet and we got quotes from about 4 people, ranging from crazy cheap to ridiculously expensive. Roselio provided a competitive quote, then started the job the following week. The team removed our old sod & soil then added new soil with gorgeous sod on top. Turns our irrigation system wasn't up to spec, so he very kindly upgraded the system at no charge (we bought the materials). The team is hardworking, honest and left our entire yard in better condition than they found it (especially hard considering the everything was removed then installed by hand via our gate and front garden) After being nickel & dimed by other contractors, we appreciate they didn't start adding on "extras" to the quote or try to up-sell. The price we were quoted was the price we paid. A month later our sod looks wonderful, Roselio has even been back a couple of times to check the watering & condition of the sod. He will be our 1st call for all our garden needs from now on, thanks Angie's List and thanks Samayoa Landscaping - our yard looks like a page from a magazine!

Luxcess Home by SOD Builders outstanding quality and guarantee to their clients made them (to our opinion) the best construction company in the Bay area for any type of high quality home remodeling services. At our house, they have completed the large scale remodeling for our house that we have for the last 3 years. We are extremely happy and pleased with everything they did for us and this work proved us that Luxcess Home by SOD Builders is in fact a construction company that we will surely refer again and again to anyone we know.

We had SOD builders come out and estimate for painting our 2500 sq ft home in willow glen. After waiting 3 weeks for the appointment, they were able to come out and provide the estimate. There estimate was 3x higher than any estimate we received. So I can not rate there work, as they were not competitive. We received estimates for painting with the same paint and colors from $4000-$8500. SOD builders came in a little under $18000. I am sure they do great work, but in the end, is it work paying 3x more?

Sod Installation Near You

When should you lay sod?

It's best to lay sod in early spring or early fall, when it's cool outside.

How Much Does Sod Cost?

Rolls cost about 28 to 45 cents a square foot - for a 2,000-square-foot-lawn, that's between $560 and $900.

How Much Do Pros Charge to Install?

$1 to $2 a square foot, or $2,000 to $4,000 for 2,000 square feet.

Laying sod is the best way to quickly turn a dirt lot into a lush, green paradise, but tackling this project on your own can be hard.

To ensure that you end up working with the best sod installation services, follow these simple sod installation hiring tips:

1. Learn About Grass Types

Knowing a little bit about the types of grass can make it easier when negotiating with sod layers, and the type of sod that's best for a lawn depends on your region. If you're in New England or the Midwest, Kentucky bluegrass might be right, but zoysia or centipede grass might be better if you're in the American Southwest. Compare and contrast the different types of sod before you call in the pros.

2. Check the Regulations

Laying sod doesn't require a license, but your town, county, or homeowner's association may have regulations regarding the laying of sod in your area. Learn about any extant regulations by contacting your local government or quiz any sod installation services you're planning to work with.

3. Look into Their History

Laying sod perfectly isn't easy, and if the company you want to work with has a history of making mistakes, you should find out. Ask for referrals from previous customers when you talk to a company you might want to work with, and don't forget to check out the local customer reviews.
