Jones Masonry

I am super pleased with Jones Masonry! They did a spectacular job of repairing leaks near my two chimneys on a 1930s home. This home is so old, the gutters are made of redwood, no kidding. They were able to fix some significant cracks in my stucco at the same time, and replace one of my spark arrestors. I got a complete estimate on the sport with the inspection. On the day of repairs, they were on time (early, but waited before ringing my bell, thanks!) got it done quickly and showed me in detail what they had done. I am very happy with them and highly recommend them to others.

I got quotes from four different companies. Craig's was the lowest. The project entailed: -Demolishing a crumbling property wall and erecting a new cinder block one in its place. -Replacing lava rock/cement planters with river rock. -Redoing a patio with paving stones. -Building a pathway of paving stones. -Grouting/grinding big cracks in cement block walls. -Building brick retainer to support listing brick BBQ. -Patching various chipped bricks and cracks in driveway. The crew worked very hard and finished in about 3 weeks. When I told Craig I was unhappy with something, he was gracious and professional enough to offer to redo the work. He was also very patient in dealing with obnoxious neighbors and difficult city inspectors. I was hesitant to write a review just yet, since the work is still in progress, but Craig freely admitted when an initial approach didn't work and genuinely seems to care that we get the aesthetic I'm after. That speaks volumes.

They were wonderful. They matched the brick perfectly. You could not even tell that it had a crack or anything. They repaired it and matched it. They were great. Their demeanor was awesome. They were very nice. Their price felt a little high to me but I think that they deserved to charge that price. Their job was good. I would recommend them.

Leticia & her crew were great to work with. They definitely take pride in their workmanship. I first had Leticia work on my brick entry and I could not believe how much work they put into fixing and cleaning those bricks. The entry looks beautiful. Because my husband was so impressed with her work, he wanted a bid to fix the lip of our driveway that was damaged. She and crew once again did not fail to deliver. You can barely tell it was repaired because she matched the work so well. When I told Leticia that she could use me anytime as a reference (if needed) she responded, "I always let my work be my reference." I will still be her reference if needed!

Some confusion in returning calls for work scheduling. Owner finally called back after I called asking about the job. Work was well done. Serviceman was good and knew what he was doing. I did stay on top of him tho to make sure it was done right.

SAN FRANCISCO TERRAZZO

Work was performed more or less in the time frame quoted. A couple of disturbing incidents occurred. One of the workers sprayed water under my front door, flooding the foyer and never thought to knock on the door to inform occupants. One adjacent step was cracked during the installation and they refused responsibility. Now, months after completion, there is a leak from a caulked seam on one of the new steps and the steps below the repair are leaking.

Mr. Miller was very detailed in his explanation to me as to what needed to be fixed and why. Although we currently are postponing the work that needs to be done for now, I would recommend Mr. Miller. He was straight to the point and didn't try to over charge me for needless work.

GARDELLE CONSTRUCTION & LANDSCAPE
5.0
Steve Gardelle was very professional during the estimates and had employees drop off sample stones for us to pick from on multiple occasions. On the first day Steve came out and outlined the area for the patio and his workers began digging. The whole process took about 6 days from start to finish. I was impressed with the crews work. However we did identify an issue when the concrete was poured that was quickly corrected. However if we had not been at home monitoring the process this may not have been easily fixed. I was a bit disappointed that Steve did not return to check on the progress and to check in with us to see if we had any comments or issues. However we raised these to his crew and they were corrected in a timely manner. A week after the project was complete we noticed that a pipe Gardelle had installed had a hairline crack and had started to leak water. We noticed this on Sunday evening and emailed Steve that night. The next morning at 8AM a member of his team was there to fix the issue. We were very surprised by how quickly they had returned to fix the problem. Overall we would recommend Gardelle to anyone needing landscaping work. Their stone masonry work is beautiful.

The person who came to give the quote was very professional, but, he also had a lot of pride and integrity in what he does. He was very clear about explaining everything that has to be done and why it needs to be done. I also had some extra masonry work to be done which they did to make the place look nice and they did a really nice job on that. After the work was finished, the owner came out to check the work. He did not allow us to pay, until he had checked all the work. He also found and fixed a few things. He was great; the company was great and the people who worked there were great. I felt the price was reasonable.

Kerri Landscape Services
5.0
I gave Rich at Kerri Landscaping an open-ended (although small) job - I agreed to pay by the hour for as long as it took to get a job done (fixing a masony post by my driveway). He quoted 3 or 4 hours, and finsihed up charging me 3 hours flat. The work looks great, done reasonably quickly (I wasn't in a rush), for the low end of the price range that was quoted, with no payment up front. I couldn't be happier. I was having a problem getting anyone to fix this because it was just a small repair instead of a big construction job, but Kerri Landscapign really came through. When I eventuallyget around to some real landscapign o my back yard, he will be at the top of my list. I'd have no problem hiring Kerri Landscape Services again, and probably will.

Stinebaugh Masonry LLC

I was very impressed with Eric from the very first contact. Punctual, knowledgeable, friendly, and professional - that he cares about his craft is evident, and he really focuses on making the customer happy. His payment structure was clear and reasonable, he began work promptly and worked nearly non-stop from start to finish. This project took him 3+ days to complete, not including the water test, final water repellent application, and finishing touches. One factor I really appreciated was his working within my budget. He determined it would be cheaper to rent a motorized lift rather than the typical scaffolding, and he made the most out of that rental by doing some touch up work in other spots on my home that would not be accessible without the lift. Overall, the whole process was very smooth. i could not be happier with the work he did.

MISTER CHIMNEY CLEANING & REPAIRS, INC
5.0
My small house is 75 years old. It was hit by a car. The point of impact was near my chimney. In the course of repairs by the insurance company's contractor I got two wildly different opinions about the chimney's safety. A structural engineer came out to look at the damage to the house right after the car hit the house. As one part of his overall inspection of the house he took a level to the chimney. He determined that there was a slight tilt to it, but given the house's age and the long time that the ground under it had been settling, the tilt was absolutely minor, the chimney was fine. No damage had been caused to it by the vehicle impact. At the end of the repairs on the main part of the house the contractor had a chimney guy he knew come in and look at the chimney. Well, this guy said the chimney was unsafe, my god look at that tilt!, the chimney was FULL of cracks, it would smoke, my house might burn down, but then again it might not, it was up to me to take the risk. Needless to say, I needed the difference in opinions sorted out. I got on Angie's List. Based on the reviews he got on Angie's List I called Mister Chimney. Mister Chimney's office got back to me right away and we set up an inspection. Mister Chimney is Martin. Martin is a delight. Very personable, wonderful manners, and boy does he know chimneys! I did not tell Martin that I had two different opinions about the chimney. He did his inspection meticulously, thoroughly. He determined my fireplace and chimney to be safe to use. MARTIN TOLD ME THE TRUTH. The contractor's guy was trying to scare me into costly, drawn out, unnecessary repairs. Martin determined that the tilt in the chimney was inconsequential, it was a great, really solidly built chimney, there were no cracks, and the fire box (where you put the logs to burn) was absolutely fine. Martin demonstrated a fund of knowledge of structural integrity, plus he has twenty five years of practical, specialized experience with chimneys. If you need an expert, and you need the truth about your chimney issues, call Martin at Mister Chimney.

MR CHIMNEY BUILDER
4.0
He did a fair job considering that there is some mess on the top of the flue liner that can be seen from the ground. I had to go up and do some minor clean-up on the cap and chimney. He was on time and did complete his work on time. Other than that he was friendly and efficient.

MISTER CHIMNEY CLEANING & REPAIRS, INC

Water was leaking in the ceiling near the chimney area from late storms last spring. I called my roofer out--I thought there may be a problem with the roof even though I had it replaced a couple of years earlier. My roofer went on the roof and said the roof looks fine, but one of my chimneys, which is in the area of the leak, has a cracked mortar cap and the grout between the bricks looks bad. He said I should call a chimney specialist out to take a look. I called Mister Chimney because they had a 5 star rating. They were busy and could not come out for several weeks, but it was ok because we were now into warm weather. Martin came out, looked around, and I told him what my roofer said. Mister Chimney called me back a few days later with an estimate to fix the concrete cap and suggested that I also install two chimney caps/spark arrestors--one for each chimney. I agreed to have the work done, which was scheduled a few weeks later. Mister Chimney came out, did the work, and I thought everything was ok. Then the storms came in December, and my ceiling was leaking again. I called my roofer as I thought my chimney had been fixed. My roofer came out right away and suggested that we wrap the chimney in plastic to the flashing, and if the leak stops, then we know it's the chimney. He had inspected the roof again, and thought everything with the roof was perfect. There was a brief break in the storm, the chimney was wrapped in plastic, it started to rain again shortly thereafter, and there were no more leaks. Thus, the chimney is still leaking. I called Mister Chimney and informed them of the situation. They were busy, as this was during the holidays, and I said it's ok as the chimney has been wrapped and no more damage is being done. On January 10, a couple of workers from Mr. Chimney came out to take a look. I met with one of them, and we spoke. He told me he knew the chimney was bad when they fixed the concrete crown and installed the additional spark arrestor. He said the chimney needs to be rebuilt at an approximate cost of $7,000. I asked, why didn't anyone tell me earlier, before I spent the money to repair the the concrete crown, etc. I now wasted money doing a repair on a chimney that ultimately needs to be rebuilt. I was upset that it was known the repair wouldn't work, and not only did I waste the money on the repair, I now incurred more damage to my ceiling. I asked the worker to please have Martin contact me with a written estimate for rebuilding the chimney, and I also said I should be given credit for the $425 that was wasted repairing the concrete cap--I'm assuming the $300 spark arrestor can be reused. I called about a week later and left a message as I hadn't heard anything. So far no one has called me back. I'm not sure if this is too big a job for Mister Chimney--if so, they should let me know. Regardless, the repair didn't work, was a waste of money, and the company is terrible at following up.

Dustin did a great job. He actually completed the job 2 days early! We were physically unable to get on the roof where the work was done but he took pictures of the before and after so we were able to see what was done. He went over everything he did in detail. Would definitely hire again.

Magnolia Home Remodeling Group

My father had a heart attack and was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and needed quadruple bypass. I hopped on a plane from San Francisco with my 2 kids and arrived at my parents house in NJ and I really couldn't get over the state of the house when I arrived. Clearly my father has been sick for quite some time and allowed the house to deteriorate. There was flooding water sitting on the foundation of the back of house due to lack of gutters, paint peeling off everywhere, and the front steps were missing bricks and a hazard to all that would walk up them. I did a quick google search and found Magnolia Home Remodeling and Vic came out the next day for a quote. Vic could not have been a more compassionate, accommodating, wonderful guy! He was so understanding and told me he would have the job done in 5 days and was true to his word. As soon as I gave him the green light and picked the color, the crew came in and completed the job before my dad got home from the hospital as promised. They did beautiful work and my mom, dad, and myself could not be more pleased with the outcome. Vic was superb to work with--I texted him all kind of questions and he got back to me in an instant and would pick up the phone every time I called. I highly recommend using Magnolia and we are actually going to get a few more things done to the house (windows. some cement patio/sidewalks and driveway) in a few months when things settle down with my dad and we look forward to seeing Vic and his great crew again.

ENLIGHTENED PAINTING COMPANY
5.0
The experience from start to finish was great. Originally I was simply looking for a painter who could also do intricate woodwork on my baseboards. I called different painters. When I spoke to Enlightened Painting, the women assured me that her husband (they re a husband and wife team) really was more of a contractor by trade and that woodwork was one of his favorite things to do. That sold me. So I had them come out for a quote. Moises (the husband) came out within a day or two. He was professional, thorough and took notes of everything. He gave me ideas right there on the spot of how to fix my woodwork problems, so I knew he was knowledgeable. They emailed me a quote shortly thereafter. The quote was reasonable, and I felt confident with Moises so I called them out to do the work. Moises brought a helper with him to get the job done in the time frame required, and he managed the worker closely so the work was of very high quality. They stayed late when they needed to and came on the weekends since I had a definitive deadline. They were very fast workers and always clean. When they purchased work product, they brought me the receipt and I paid cost on it. Moises did the woodwork himself and it was amazing. He had to create angles on this special bamboo baseboard I purchased for the stairs, and the work was truly art. He was so meticulous and took tremendous pride in his work. I was so impressed that I asked Moises to do the other small projects I had such as fixing some tile and one large project of putting up a flexible brick wall product I had purchased (I was thinking I d have to go to a mason). There were some things Moises didn t account for in his quote, but he did not charge me extra for them. He is that kind of guy, honest and ethical. I will call Enlightened Painting for all my needs moving forward and would highly recommend them to anyone. These guys are a real find.

J K MASONRY

Okay. I expected more. He spent about 5-10 minutes and charge d $135. The inspector told me the same thing that the home inspection report stated. He said that the chimney flue liner is very dirty and unless that is cleaned he cannot say for sure but he thinks I would be okay. He did attest that structurally the chimney is in good condition. His price for cleaning was $325 but I was able to get this done by another company for $129.
