We bought our house 3 years ago. It was a 1920's house, with a terrible kitchen remodel from 1990. Everything about it was problematic - the awkward layout, the mismatched appliances, the pink formica countertops with matching pink tile floor. We knew this was going to be a gut job because nothing was worth keeping. We had worked with Henry before on a smaller scale project. He designed a deck off the side of the house, and replaced a set of windows with sliders. It went really well, so we decided to get his help with our kitchen. We knew bits and pieces of what we wanted in the kitchen. We picked out a nice stove, knew we wanted to use green materials, and and we love mid century modern design. Henry turned our bits and pieces into a comprehensive design. There were many small things we didn't even think about (the placement of lights, the depth of the counter, etc) that he thought about and ensured were well designed. We couldn't be happier with the outcome. Not only was Henry's design perfect, he included a lot of extras: recommending the contractor to use and working with the contractor during the remodel to ensure the designs were executed perfectly. This included making design tweaks during the remodel, ensuring the right materials were used, and helping make sure we stayed on budget and on schedule. One of the best parts of our kitchen is the custom designed upper cabinets. Henry designed them based upon our needs, and they give our kitchen a special uniqueness that we love. Being a repeat customer is the best recommendation. We've worked with Henry twice, and would not hesitate to work with him in the future.

Gary Struthers and Theresa Dias were both very responsive to both my client's and my needs. Both are very good listeners and were able to take my client's vision and turn it into a buildable design. As a General Contractor, the ease and cost of building are directly affected by the architect's design. Gary Struthers provided a plan set that was clear and easy to interpret. It included all of the city's requirements and passed through the Building Plan Check process without any comments. This is no small feat! In addition I was able to provide my clients with a reasonable cost and schedule for construction. The job was completed on time and budget with no small thanks to SDA. I have used Gary and Theresa's company many times in the past and and am currently bidding on another project designed by their company. They have been a major part of my successes and I look forward to many more years of collaboration. If you are looking for an architect I highly recommend their services.

We had some slightly non-conventional design ideas to better integrate the breakfast nook with the kitchen (extending the so-called "kitchen triangle" to encompass the breakfast nook). Other contractors either doubted or discouraged our designs. Only Mike Marinos fully grasped the intent of our modern design and implemented it perfectly!

Roy and his team did a fantastic job in their 5 week project redoing our master and guest bathrooms, and hallway cabinet set. I wanted modern marble finishes and custom looks, and he was able to do everything I asked. He was very professional and met with us frequently to go through plans and cost breakdowns. He was always promptly responsive and if I wanted to add new ideas, he was able to incorporate them. He was also friendly and personable. I know he and his team worked really hard to put everything together for us and we really appreciated his time and effort!

The team at S&L Remodeling remodeled my kitchen and it completely changed everything in my house! The new kitchen makes my dining room and living room look bigger and brighter. The kitchen is very modern and just the way I had pictured it. David was my initial contact and he was beyond helpful and professional in the remodeling process. The work the team did was AWESOME! From the tile, stone, and glass work in the bathrooms to the carpentry and cabinetry the craftsmanship and attention to detail was phenomenal. Vincenzo and his team at Progressive Builders have a great eye for design and did a fantastic job balancing the original character of our home with a modern update. The team was excited to work on the project and was very responsive. During the construction process, it became clear the electrical and plumbing needed additional work, thankfully Vincenzo was able to schedule the work while keeping the costs reasonable, not an easy task in the SF market. The remodel turned out even better than we imagined!

We wanted to modernize our 1941 year old Sausalito home, a house that had had two minor remodels over the years. After interviewing several Architects we hired Andy Morrall as our Architect for our project, which included remodeling, plus an addition. We made the right choice and were rewarded with a Design beyond our expectations, and meeting our criteria. Andy's honesty and willingness to share his professional opinion gained our trust early in the process. My husband and I were very impressed not only with Andy's communication ability, but also with his quick grasp of what we wanted. Plus, his enthusiasm for the project was unmatched, constantly tapping into his creativity as an Architect to find solutions. Andy began his thorough Design process with us by listening to our wish list. He then interpreted and offered solutions that displayed a level of creativity we didn't expect, integrating our remodel seamlessly into our older home. Also gaining our trust was Andy's consistent level of work and high level of technical expertise. There were many details that he offered that we had not even imagined. Examples include: 1.) Interpreting the open cathedral ceiling in our main Living Space and bringing those details and materials up a notch to make this a feature in the Sitting Area addition; 2.) Listening to our concerns with our Entry and offering a translucent exterior Entry trellis that can be up lit at night; 3.) Tying in the Entry trellis design with the Sitting Room Addition; 4.) Addressing our existing staircase, creating a balconied opening that brings light between the two levels. Additionally and importantly, Andy has been with us every step of the way, gathering preliminary estimates from Contractors with whom he had worked, giving us the opportunity to fit the project to our budget, providing assistance on interior finish selection, doing his homework with the city to ensure our project met the city's planning code, and providing a voluminous set of construction documents to bid and build from. Andy is currently assisting us with the Bid and permit phase of our project and will continue with us throughout the project. Continually, he has worked hard for us, extending well beyond our expectations. We feel confident that because we hired Andy our home will be the modernized home we wanted; one that is exemplify with beautiful Architecture. We purchased a house in the bay area so that we could can visit my sons who are at college more often. The house was in shambles, and we began our process of finding a good contractor who can turn over the place into a beautiful house while we were in the process of buying it. We needed several permits for electrical, plumbing and Oren and his awesome staff made it very easy for us. We went and decided to remodel the whole place, we did custom kitchen, bathrooms, living room and garage while they helped us pick out all the tiles for the backsplash, paint colors and style and more and more... We did a custom bathroom that came out absolutely stunning, we could go on and on. We want to spend more time in this home than our current, we highly recommend them.

We hired Andy Morrall as the Architect for our extensive addition in Noe Valley. Andy provided an excellent and cost effective design. The design provides great access and privacy to the rear yard for the existing main house, as well as for the new residential unit. Andy was sensitive to our modern design aesthetic while integrating the existing Victorian House. We have submitted the project to the San Francisco Planning and Building Department and have received our approval letter from the Planning Department. Andy was very knowledgeable when it came to dealing with the city.? We are anticipating to submit the final documents to the Building Department early next year to start the construction of the project.? We highly recommend Andy Morrall as an Architect.

Joe and his team were amazing and gave us excellent service from the kitchen to the foundation. The quality of the work was exceptional and it was a pleasure to work with all of them. Their success at finishing on time was because of a solid work ethic that sometimes had them staying 3-4 hours extra and coming on weekends when necessary. Joe’s detailed knowledge of current code was very helpful in some of our complex decisions. He even recommended a cheaper option to the intended design and we are thrilled with the outcome. I would (and have) recommend them to anyone with a major or minor construction project.

Overall, the project went very well. The drawings had to be re-done (not Manuela's fault but due to my changes). That added to the overall cost of the project. My contractor needed a lot of hand holding and didn't pay attention to the drawings, so Manuela had to step in and do a lot of project management with him (also added to her costs). I was extremely happy with the outcome and the house looks great! Manuela listened to me, understood my taste, and what my desired outcome should look like. She translated what I wanted, added her ideas and expertise, and really took my 1950s small ranch into the 21st century. The house feels so much bigger due to her thoughtful design. I am so pleased with the transformation! Additionally, Manuela could NOT have been more professional and responsive. As we all know, remodeling is stressful and not everything goes according to plan. Manuela was always calm and collected, even when I was not!

Excellence during all phases of the job starting with initial consultation by owner Linda Gridley, through design (architect came up with many great ideas and re-worked the plan several times to meet my needs while staying within budget and solving issues such as city setback limitations, location of electrical panel, gas meter, etc. The design looked good on paper and in 3D computer simulations. It looks even better as it's being built and I can see how well the design flows throughout the house. Project began precisely on time and is moving faster than originally planned due to the efficient and highly skilled workmen and adaptive real-time management by the project manager. The project is now 70% complete. The main thing that continues to impress me is the attention to details in all aspects of the job. I am a hands-on person and have crawled under the house and in the attic several times during progress of the work. All work is done cleanly and professionally. I've had other work done in the past on two different homes and the quality from Gridley Company is MUCH higher. Work completed to date includes demolition of old family room and covered patio, removal of all old concrete, construct new foundation, then frame and build new family room. As part of the work, retro-fit two walls of existing house to strengthen it for earthquakes. Complete new furnace and ducting, insulation in all wall and ceiling areas that were opened. Copper plumbing, new drains for kitchen and laundry room as well as new master bath, almost entire house re-wired. Drywall texturing is now in progress while new kitchen cabinets are being made and stucco work on the outside. When work is completed, design of new family room will blend in perfectly with original house so you won't even know it was remodeled! I'll update this review once the project is totally completed.

The design work was completed on time and budget. It was submitted to the City of Oakland and was approved within 2 days. The lead architect was available for phone consults and would visit the site periodically to check on progress and clear up any design issues that arose during the build.

We had an exceptional positive experience working with them. Mike Amini, architect, suggested several changes in the main floor that really opened up the house and pointed out the beautiful view we have out the rear of the house. Matt Amini, stuctural engineer, was the Project Manager. He is very much a perfectionist and all of his suggestions were excellent giving us an expert cost vs. benefit opinion based on his experience. They started the house in December, 2009 and finished it in August, 2010. Since they had to almost completely rebuilt the house, we thought that was really fast. They worked continuously and were not always running off to other jobs. Matt responded immediately to any request we had. We also found that all of the subcontractors he hired on the job were incredible craftsmens with close attention to detail. We also worked with a designer on the job which I know can be difficult interacting with contractors, but they worked together to give us the very best end result. This is a family business where they all work cohesively together. No one is pointing fingers at each other if and when mistakes are made - a big advantage of their vertical integration. Obviously, losing our house and everything in it was quite devastating to us (we are in our 60's), but working with the Craftsmen's Guild and their vision for our house really brought us out of our emotional lows. Seeing the vision they had for the house and watching it unfold was really exciting for us! The finished house is really incredible. This would not have happened were it not for the Craftsmens Guild. We are currently landscaping the house and using Matt's cousin, Parviz Emani, from Modern Construction Design, who is also doing a fabulous job! I read one of the other reviews here that was negative and, quite frankly, we experienced NONE of the problems they seemed to have had with the Craftsmens Guild and we worked with them for about 10 months! Even now - after we have given the Craftsmen's Guild our final payment, we are still adding some additional features. We call Matt and he responds immediately to our requests!

The new addition flows seamlessly with the existing Craftsman Architecture. Andy was very sensitive to the turn-of the -century Craftsman Home and incorporated many of the design details into the new Architecture. He also came up with new ideas and forms that create a new Architectural presence. Andy provided extensive detailed design documentation, specifying finishes and fixtures and Architectural details. Andy was experienced in dealing with the city and worked diligently to expedite the drawings through the San Francisco Planning and Building Department. Andy reviewed and assisted us in awarding the bid for the contractor based on his documents. The project is currently nearing completion and Andy has performed site visits during construction and is attentive and responsive to the Contractor's questions as he is building the project. We highly recommend Andy as an Architect.
