Learning from the WordPress community

A bright sunny day, a vast garden with open tents, and bright signs all around, such was the setting of WordCamp Udaipur.

The thing that stood out most was the calm and friendly vibe of the event. This wasn’t normal exhibition of brands but rather a gathering of a community to share their knowledge with one another.

This being my first WordCamp event, it was quite a learning experience. The people I met were a very active and dedicated set of individuals focused on continuously learning and keeping themselves up to date with the latest trends in the industry.

What was even more refreshing to see was the presence of kids as young as 16 who were already actively working as freelancers by leveraging WordPress to create websites. WordCamp provided them with a great opportunity to connect with others from the community and explore the options of building a career in the space.

Talking to the developers present at the event provided many insights about how they use WordPress, how WooCommerce was the preferred method to go about setting up an e-commerce presence. With 14 million people using WooCommerce, it was great to meet the WooCommerce team and see how they work towards making their products better by learning from their customers.

With Kitsune being a new entrant in the WordPress space, we did see a lot of interest in how we can help developers get more value for the sites they build. The SEO space for WordPress is currently dominated by Yoast, a market leader and the default go-to for developers. With Kitsune coming in, developers were keen to learn about how we differentiate from others in the SEO space and how they can get started.

WordCamp provides an excellent platform to learn and interact with the WordPress community as a whole. The WordPress space is definitely growing and we look forward to working towards contributing to this by offering developers a great product that helps them get discovered.

It was an amazing experience and I hope to meet many more people as we continue to participate in the WordCamps to come.
