How to fix “MySQL server has gone away” error?

While restoring your database you may encounter “MySQL server has gone away” warning. There are generally two main causes for this error: 1) the server timed out and closed the connection and 2) server dropped an incorrect or too large packet.
To fix the issue you will have to contact your hosting provider and ask them increase the size of these two values: max_allowed_packet & wait_timeout

Great support (even for free)

I had a problem and did email them and t hey were quick to respond with a solution. Everything working great. I was just trying to do a backup, download it, and unarchive it, which failed. They have awesome free software at the main site to do it. Turned out it was just corrupted. They suggested to try again, and voila, it worked!. Thank you!

Didn’t work on my site

I paid for the Pro version and it fails miserably on my WP site I’ve only been able to create one backup which won’t restore so much good to me.
Support desk are quick to respond to asking for a temporary word press login and then a FTP link into your site which i supplied but then didn’t hear anything so ended up deleting my site – luckily it was only for development.

Great plugin, great backup

Got the paid version of Backup guard, its quick and effective, backup to dropbox and i had a problem that i caused accidentally and they sorted it very quickly and by a friendly team.. thanks..

Excellent Backup Plugin

This plugin is definitely worth the price. We have saved much time and worry having our sites backed up locally and in the cloud. Thank you for a great and professional product!

The best backup plugin I’ve tested

I give 4 out of 5 stars mostly becuase I haven’t tried to restore from one of the backup, nor have I tried to perform a migration. I have high confidence that I assume that it works. Here are my pros and cons.
PS: Remember that I’m using the free version.

Pros:
* User friendly user interface
* ‘One click’ backup ~ makes it easy to perform a backup
* Fast!

Cons:
* Can’t rename the backups to a ‘easier to remember’-name
* Can’t change where the backup is stored. To store the backup on the same server that is taken backup of, is not considered to be very smart. I have a suspicion that one can change where the backups is store with the paid version, but I believe this is such a big deal that one should be able to add e.g. FTP-information to where the backup should be uploaded when it’s done.
