July 9, 2020 BlockBlockBlock is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. Patterns will be officially released with WordPress 5.5. As a last push, we cleaned up the list of patterns to be released and tweaked a few of them.
Feedback is still incoming and we expect to continue to make improvements during the betaBetaA pre-release of software that is given out to a large group of users to trial under real conditions. Beta versions have gone through alpha testing in-house and are generally fairly close in look, feel and function to the final product; however, design changes often occur as part of the process. period.
With work well underway for Full Site Editing, we must start looking at the different ways users will create pages and layouts on their websites.
The Block Patterns feature will give users access to a catalog of various pre-made patterns (made of blocks) that will allow users to easily create and modify engaging layouts for their content.
