Gutenberg

Descrizione

“Gutenberg” is a codename for a whole new paradigm for creating with WordPress, that aims to revolutionize the entire publishing experience as much as Gutenberg did the printed word. The project is following a four-phase process that will touch major pieces of WordPress — Editing, Customization, Collaboration, and Multilingual.

The block editor first became available in December 2018. We’re always hard at work refining the experience, creating more and better blocks, and laying the groundwork for the future phases of work. Each WordPress release comes ready to go with the stable features from multiple versions of the Gutenberg plugin, so you don’t need to use the plugin to benefit from the work being done here. However, if you’re more adventurous and tech-savvy, the Gutenberg plugin gives you the latest and greatest, so you can join us in testing bleeding-edge features, start playing with blocks, and maybe get inspired to build your own.

I'm leaving this review to say "sayonara" to WordPress before I migrate to another hosting site. Gutenberg is terrible. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Now you have to pay EXTRA for the "Classic Editor" plugin. (Why do we have to pay extra for a service we've ALREADY been paying for all these years?) And there's no guarantee that "Classic Editor" plugin will be supported beyond 2021! Folks, WordPress has made it very clear that they don't care about us. They don't care about our business. So, let's not give it to them. Let the market punish them for their arrogance and stupidity. Take your money elsewhere. Bye-bye, WordPress! Bye-bye, Gutenberg!

You really have to use this editor to like it. At the beginning i was sceptical and only used the legacy plugin. But now I'm using it everywhere. It's just easier and the future. Especially for example shema ready blocks.

WordPress obviously completely forgot its founding principle- ie a great platform that anyone can use. Now it seems a platform only developers can use. Forced block editing because apparently " blocs" are the latest and greatest. They aren't for most and you should have the ability to turn them off. And the visual editor now is gone- you cant edit and see what it looks like on your page at the same time. Should absolutely stay as strictly an optionional plugin. To be turned on or off.

After wasting so much time with the new editor and coming from WPBakery I have wasted hours trying to do basic things that would have taken seconds in WPBakery. Sure it does so fantastic sexy things but at what cost? Re-usuable blocks don't work properly, it's so slow editing pages with some pages taking 30 seconds to load or telling you that a block has had an error. Lot's of plugins with extra blocks which are just repeated or don't do what they should or missing vital parts. A page in WPBakery takes a few mins, the same one in Gutenberg takes 10 times longer. Now half my website is with WPBakery and the other half is with Gutenberg. There's now ANOTHER plugin to show you your page layout. Something that is obvious in WPBakery. Wished I'd never set eyes on this. The fact that many many months in the users still think it's rubbish says it all.
