Support » Theme: Restaurant and Cafe » why the_excerpt instead of the_content?

  • Hi,
I love you theme, installed it and it is straightforward to use.

However i realy do not understand why you have coded the wordpress function the_excerpt instead of just the_content to display almost all text in your theme?

This way it is almost impossible to add a simple line break in text, which is very un-user friendly ( for ex. clients who do not know how to use html or how to know to dig in your code to adapt this feature).

I for myself, who knows my way about php, am searching now for more than an hour where you have coded your “about us” section, so i can finaly adapt your code and add a line break in this section, as even adding shortcode to add <br> in functions.php does not help.

your thoughts about this matter is more than welcome.

  • Hello @lobodesign,

Thank you for your concern but this is how the theme has been developed.

If you want to know where you can find the code for the About section then you can find that in the inc/extras.php file with restaurant_and_cafe_about_cb() fuction.

Also, I would like you to create the child theme to do any modification on the code.

Because if you make the changes directly on the main theme files then on the update your changes will be lost.

You can find many plugins to create the child theme for you.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

    Thank you.

    Hi Rara,
thank you for your reply, much appreciated.
I found the inc/extras.php, thanks for pointing it out.

Good tip also to create a child theme, as indeed i’m going to make some little changes :-).

So infact this topic can be closed.
However i did encounter a new question..but will open a new ticket for it as it is not related with this one.

    Best regards.
