I don't want to dip a full toe into the education curriculum debate, but to the extent that we want to prepare young people for the world, acquiring Optimal Internet Skepticism seems like a good general skill to pick up as a kid.

I like 's way of thinking about this. Conspiracy theorists like to think they're master skeptics. But they disbelieve true things only to throw their faith behind a very specific, very wrong theory. They have bad taste in skepticism!

The hard reality of dealing w/ information abundance is you are constantly learning that many elites/traditions/institutions are full of shit; and also learning that many ppl who make "institutions are full of shit" their Thing are even more full of shit

"Certain cancers, like lung and liver, are likely to relapse post-surgery. mRNA vaccines"—which targeted the spike protein on the coronavirus—"could be perfectly suited to block this recurrence by targeting the molecules associated with regrowth"

There are many reasons for companies to want to build out layers of Internet-enabled commerce and virtual reality that we are roughly calling The Metaverse. But I think a fair amount of corporate interest in this space is “vertical integration” by another name.

Amazing chart. Part of the appeal of the *metaverse* is that Facebook etc want to build proprietary hardware that delivers their software, bc Apple is demonstrating how relying on other firms for distribution creates the potential for chokepoints.

The telephone took almost 100 years to reach 60% penetration in the US, whereas radio did it in about 10 years. “Social” media used to spread slower than broadcast media in the late-19/early-20th century. Today it might be the opposite.

This isn’t the stagflation 70s. It’s the kaboomflation 20s. Consumer spending on goods has gone bananas while supply chains have struggled to keep up. What feels like an everything shortage in supply is in part an everything surge in demand.

interesting point from : "Before the pandemic, the office served for many as the last physical community left, especially as church attendance and association membership declined. But now even our office relationships are being dispersed."

The thing that has often been skimmed over in the supply chain discussion is that the U.S. is in fact importing a record amount of goods, and shoppers are buying a record amount of stuff. That's what's ultimately overwhelming our ports and transport system.

I have heard "you may experience call times that are longer than usual" from a voice robot in my last ~20 customer service calls, which means that either (a) I am just an unlucky guy or; (b) humans are being gaslit, as a species, by robots about average call time length

I once had a theater director who always said, with regard to the speed of our line-readings: "Faster! Faster! No, slow down!" And that is, basically, in 5 words, the upshot of the American electorate's relationship to government.

The Great Resignation is the tip of a broader trend, a destabilization + decentralization of economics. More migration to suburbs, more ppl quitting, more new companies, more distributed workforces. This is a centrifugal moment in US economic history.
