Have you ever had trouble getting women and people from other underrepresented groups to speak at your meetupsMeetup Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events on a regular basis (commonly once a month). The Diverse Speaker Training group (#wpdiversity) has a series of hands-on, effective lesson plans for you. These lessons:

  • bust through impostor syndrome
  • help folks find a topic
  • help the future speakers create their title, pitch, bio, and outline
  • discusses better speaker tips
  • give the participants a chance to practise speaking
  • and helps build confidence

In 2018, the group supported and advised 55 WordPress communities in 26 different countries. New speakers were trained in 12 different WordPress meetup groups in the US, Canada, Brazil, South Africa, and Venezuela.

“All of the communities that held this workshop experienced a real change in the speaker roster for their annual conferences; many of their WordCamps went from having 10% women speakers to having 50% or more women speakers in less than a year. In 2017, Seattle had 60% women speakers and in 2018, Vancouver had 63%.”

Diverse participants of the workshop will have access to feedback from speaker mentorsMentor Someone who has already organised a WordCamp and has time to meet with their assigned mentee every 2 weeks, they talk over where they should be in their timeline, help them to identify their issues, and also identify solutions for their issues.. Once we get the questionnaire back, we will send you a page of resources to share with the participants including how they can book a session with a speaker mentorMentor Someone who has already organised a WordCamp and has time to meet with their assigned mentee every 2 weeks, they talk over where they should be in their timeline, help them to identify their issues, and also identify solutions for their issues..
