We are very pleased to announce that the American Board of Industrial Hygiene® (ABIH®) has created a new, high-level organizational umbrella called the Board for Global EHS Credentialing® (BGC®) to more accurately reflect our enhanced credential offerings, which include the:
- Certified Industrial Hygienist® (CIH®),
- Qualified Environmental Professional® (QEP®),
- Environmental Professional In-Training® (EPI®),
- Certified Professional Product Steward® (CPPS®),
- Certified Professional Environmental Auditor® (CPEA®), and the
- Certified Process Safety Auditor® (CPSA®).
Our Mission
To be the leader in offering EHS credentials that elevate the technical and ethical standards for professionals who practice the science of evaluating, protecting, managing, and enhancing the health and safety of people and the environment.
Our Vision
The Board for Global EHS Credentialing is recognized worldwide for establishing and administering credentials that set the standards of proficiency and ethics for EHS professionals.
Industrial Hygiene
The Certified Industrial Hygienist® (CIH®) exam is the global standard for certification in industrial hygiene or occupational health. CIHs protect the health and safety of workers and the public by identifying and investigating chemical, physical, biological, or ergonomic hazards and suggesting plans to eliminate or minimize them. Practitioners must meet education and work-experience requirements to pass a rigorous exam, practice ethically, and keep their knowledge and skills up to date.
Environmental
The Qualified Environmental Professional® (QEP®) is for environmental practitioners with demonstrated multi-media work experience, who have passed the General Environmental Science exam and the Qualified Environmental Professional exam, a rigorous evaluation of scientific knowledge and expertise in one of four selected areas: 1) Air Quality, 2) Water Quality, 3) Waste Management, or 4) Environmental Science, Management, and Policy. Individuals who pass must commit to ongoing professional development and a code of ethical conduct.
Product Stewardship
Product stewardship is the responsible management of the health, safety, and environmental aspects of products throughout their life cycle and across the value chain to prevent or minimize negative impacts and maximize value. The new credential, Certified Professional Product Steward™ (CPPS™), will establish a common framework to define the profession of product stewardship and provide product stewards with the opportunity to demonstrate their professional competence.

Auditing
By earning the Certified Professional Environmental Auditor® (CPEA®) and Certified Process Safety Auditor® (CPSA®) designations, practitioners represent the exceptional knowledge, integrity, skill, and understanding of highly effective and fully-qualified environmental, health, and safety auditing professionals. Demonstrating competency, commitment, and ability in environmental, health, and safety auditing is a key component in today’s business environment.
