Why won't wikipedia feature list everyday like articles, pictures etc?[edit]

Why won't wikipedia feature list everyday like articles, pictures etc? There is no feature list on Oct 9 2021. Rizosome (talk) 04:25, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[]

See Wikipedia:Today's featured list. Like those other you mentioned, these are reliant on there being people to allocate them to be on TFL, feel free to start suggesting articles for specific dates and writing blurbs. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 08:40, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[]

math fonts rotated 90 and 270 degrees[edit]

I have noticed several instances of math fonts rotated 90 and 270 degrees -- on pages that I have viewed before. Is there some systematic error that is leading to these issues? Best regards Gavin — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.157.239.122 (talk) 05:26, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[]

How to delete or clean non empty redirect[edit]

Hello, I'm from idwiki and there are some redirect pages that is not empty in idwiki (the redirect page has a different version of the same article).

Is there a way to clean them fast or automatically by using a bot? Or is there a tool to search a list of these non empty redirect pages?

I've used Petscan before and it does not seem to work when I dont have a specific category to search it. Thank you FenyMufyd (talk) 06:41, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[]

@FenyMufyd: HI there! We have non-empty redirect pages on enwiki. My BattyBot 43 removed maintenance templates from redirects on enwiki. You may have to ask your question on idwiki (if you haven't done so already). Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 04:02, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Hello there! Why IPs cannot create pages (except talk pages and drafts), cannot move pages, cannot upload files, cannot have user pages, cannot edit protected pages (except pending changes protection), cannot have minor edits option, and must answer CAPTCHA if they wish to add external links? Vitaium (talk) 15:02, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[]

@Vitaium: There were many problems with IP vandalism, spam and poor edits, sometimes automated against the rules. IP addresses often change or are shared so an IP user page would often be meaningless. Creating an account is easy. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:20, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[]

I tried to create a hat note at School of thought which directs readers to Ded (band). This has been reverted twice. Compiling in-line citations from the same source.[edit]

Hello all - I'm wondering if someone can help me with a rather frustrating problem I'm having cleaning up references on Togo (dog) . A user some time ago added page numbers for references to Salisbury's The Cruelest Miles but did not give the full reference, only individual page numbers cited for that section of the article. I cited the book in full during an edit I made some months ago. Today I attempted to combine all the in-line citations to the book with their respective page numbers cited at each in-line. However, every time I try to do this, both the listing on the reference list, and each individual citation on mouse-over and upon inspecting the information in edits, ONLY cites the pages from the FIRST citation of the book, not any of the others that I specifically edited in. I know I have seen articles in the past use the same source with different page ranges, and each citation showing its own respective pages, not attached only to the first one on the page. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this myself. I have edited them several times now with everything looking the way I desire in editing mode, and when I publish it, it reverts to only listing pages for the first instance of the book being cited. I am a bit frustrated and embarrassed at the mess I've made of the edit history in my attempt to cleanup something that seems so simple - some help would be greatly appreciated! How do you decide what to put in "First Last (What goes here)"?[edit]

I'm specifically looking at the article David Mack (police officer) and am wondering why he is referred to with (police officer) rather than something like (runner)? From my perspective, being one of the US's best runners ever, he is more notable for his running career. How are you supposed to determine what someone is most noted for? Karsonkevin2 (talk) 13:22, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Just reading the article he seems to be far better known for being a corrupt police officer than for his running. (The section on his running career contains the word "fail" or "failed" three times.) If the information on his running was considerably expanded then your suggestion might have some weight. The better place to discuss this is on the article talk page.--Shantavira|feed me 13:38, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[]
Representing the United States at the world championships is a big deal, but clearly in this case being involved with the bank robbery is much more central to our article. I would suggest opening a discussion at the talk page, but "runner" being the disambiguation is probably not going to be right. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 13:52, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[]
@Shantavira: I used the word fail in the context of failing to make it to finals. Ex. he finished 10th place in the world, but failed to be top 8. I could add this terminology to pretty much every athlete's page in the world, since they probably failed to be top 8 in the world in a given year. Karsonkevin2 (talk) 00:03, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Autohighlighting specific characters.[edit]

I'd like to know if there is a tool (js, I guess) that if turned on, will highlight specific characters in an article. At this point I'm looking at articles that my search has said have a latin alphabet character next to a greek one, and I'd like to easily see in the article where that is. So for example, if both ΦΒΚ and ΦBK are in an article, I'd like to have all of the first one highlighted and only the Phi highlighted in the second (the first has Beta and Kappa, the second has B and K). I'd like it to be a little flexible, since I'd like to be able to add the accented greek letters as well as the Lunate Sigma (the version of Sigma that looks like a C. This is as much a "How can it be done?" as "What other page should I ask on?"Naraht (talk) 15:00, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Wikipedia:User scripts/Requests?
Trappist the monk (talk) 15:05, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[]
@Naraht: I would use AutoWikiBrowser (AWB) and populate the "Find" field with [ΑΒΓΔΕΖΗΘΙΚΛΜΝΞΟΠΡΣΤΥΦΧΨΩ][ABEZHIKMNOP] with the a Regex box checked. If I wanted to, I would then create find and replace rules to replace the Latin characters with the Greek letters (e.g. ([ΑΒΓΔΕΖΗΘΙΚΛΜΝΞΟΠΡΣΤΥΦΧΨΩ])B$1Β). If I wanted to find all such articles, a search for insource:/[ΑΒΓΔΕΖΗΘΙΚΛΜΝΞΟΠΡΣΤΥΦΧΨΩ][ABEZHIKMNOP]/ times out, so I would search a database dump using AWB. If I was happy with all that, I would then do the same thing where the Latin character preceded the Greek character. Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 16:22, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[]
GoingBatty I've actually done most of these, unfortunately, of the remaining entries where this occurs, the most common scenario is no changes (for example, MΩ meaning Mega-Ohm), the second most is the Phi B K to Phi Beta Kappa and there are only a few that are latin to greek. I do use Autowikibrowser, but for something like this, I don't think it is a fine enough tool (in the chainsaw to scalpel measurement) By far the most common changes are things that look like IOΦAΔI where the A, O, A & I need to be changed to greek, which would mean that if I automated them, I'd need to both loop *and* have the rules for both directions (Greek-Latin to Greek-Greek and Latin-Greek to Greek-Greek. I'll take a look at AutoWikiBrowser to see if simply having the edit screen up at the same times as the search helps.Naraht (talk) 17:23, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[]
@Naraht: The Find and replace Advanced settings allow you to "Apply No. of times" for automated looping. Or you could use the Find and replace Normal settings, and manually reparse the article if it's one you want to edit. GoingBatty (talk) 20:23, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Help[edit]

Hi friend,

Hope you are doing well. I am new to Wikipedia. I created a draft and then it was declined :( as I did not put up references. Now, I have updated the references, but my all references are in the style of a weblink. Is it ok? Here is the article link-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Kirtimaan_Syal, I am working on these days. Can anyone go through and help me improvise it?

Thanks, Kalyani Kalyan1010 (talk) 05:31, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Kalyan1010, the article was declined because "This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines for academics). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia."
You need to find some references which show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject. Until you can do that there is little point in improving the format of the article. TSventon (talk) 05:59, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[]
Thank you so much for the prompt response. I have already improvised the article as per the comments. I was worried about the reference style in the current version if it is ok. Since you have raised the point, do you think that article has improved if I compare it with the previous version? Please share your opinion. thanks, Kalyan1010 (talk) 06:28, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[]
Kalyan1010, the article was declined because you had not identified sufficient sources and I think that is still a problem. There is an essay, WP:THREE, which suggests identifying your three best sources to enable a reviewer to assess the sourcing more quickly. Papers written by the subject and interviews with the subject do not count as they are not independent. You can worry about the reference style once you have found sufficient sources. TSventon (talk) 06:57, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[]
Once again, thank you for your time and attention. To understand it better, in the linked review article published in the Journal of Molecular Biology (Elsevier), Jacob et al. discusses Dr. Syal's work on Vitamin C. They discuss, "Interestingly, Syal and colleagues demonstrated that vitamin C inhibits (p)ppGpp synthesis inM. smegmatis, suggestingthat vitamin C can exploit different mechanismsto prevent persister formation in mycobacteria.Although vitamin C andN-acetylcysteine could beused as adjunct therapy for TB as they are non-toxic and, in the case ofN-acetylcysteine, alreadyused in TB patients to help cope with TB drugtoxicity, the quantity required to achieve culturesterilizationin vitro(mM range) may not be appli-cable in TB patients. Nevertheless, these findingssuggest that screening for compounds that increaseM. tuberculosisrespiration could provide a newpath towardsM. tuberculosiseradication....." Does it count as an Independent source? Also, the felicitation by the Health Minister of India and by Sun Pharma for work in the field of Biomedical Sciences count as an independent source.
Apologies for too many questions. Hope you don't mind. I am still learning.
Thank you so much.
Kalyani Kalyan1010 (talk) 10:20, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[]
Kalyan1010, writing a new article is difficult, I recommend reading Help:Your first article. Also Wikipedia:Notability (academics). I can't access the Journal of Molecular Biology. It looks independent and reliable, but How long is the passage about Syal? Ideally you want a couple of paragraphs each to show significant coverage in three different sources.
The felicitation by the Health Minister of India is just a name and employer listing, so it is not significant coverage. TSventon (talk) 11:11, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[]
Again, thank you so much.
I have gone through the article shared by you. It was to the point and informative. I have now revised the article and included three fairly independent citations. In your opinion, are these references enough?
1. "ACS Omega (American Chemical Society). Antibiotic Resistance: Current Perspectives. by Anushya Petchiappan and Chatterji D. (2017), 2 (10), 7400-7409. DOI: 10.1021/acsomega.7b01368. Addition of this compound led to inhibition of biofilm formation by M. tuberculosis. It also led to decreased long-term survival and cellular (p)ppGpp levels in Mycobacterium smegmatis. The compound was shown to be cell wall permeable in human lung epithelial cells and nontoxic to H460 cells. Design of stringent response inhibitors. Relacin is a structural analogue of ppGpp. Guanosine was chemically modified to synthesize acetylated and acetylated benzoylated derivatives that inhibit Rel. Vitamin C is a natural analogue that resembles GDP in structure...... A recent study showed that vitamin C inhibits M. tuberculosis growth at high concentrations.(22) Syal et al. proposed vitamin C to be an inhibitor of stringent response and demonstrated its binding to Rel (Figure 5).(23) Addition of vitamin C inhibited (p)ppGpp synthesis by Rel in vitro as well as reduced in vivo (p)ppGpp levels and biofilm formation in M. smegmatis. Thus, this opens up opportunities to test vitamin C alone against bacterial infections....."".
2. Journal of Molecular Biology (Elsevier), Jacob et al. discusses Dr. Syal's work on Vitamin C. They discuss, "Interestingly, Syal and colleagues demonstrated that vitamin C inhibits (p)ppGpp synthesis inM. smegmatis, suggesting that vitamin C can exploit different mechanismsto prevent persister formation in mycobacteria. 3. "Genes Robles CM, Coin F. Conducting the CTD orchestra. News and Views. Nature Chemical Biology (NPG) 2019 Feb;15(2):97-98". - It is a news and views article. The entire article discusses his group work. (Noncanonical CTD kinases regulate RNA polymerase II in a gene-class-specific manner. Nature Chemical Biology (NPG) 15, 123-131. Thank you so much. Kalyani Kalyan1010 (talk) 00:51, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
Kalyan1010, I wanted to point you in the right direction in looking for sources that establish notability and hopefully I have done that. I don't assess articles at AfC myself so I don't know exactly where they draw the line. If the third article is an interview with Syal about his own work, that may not be independent coverage. I think I understand what they mean. How will the IBAN be enforced if the users are simply banned from interacting with each other? ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 21:38, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[]
We don't have a way to technically (e.g. by blocking) prevent someone from violating an interaction ban, so enforcement is normally through reports of abuse, That is, if another user observes that an editor is violating an interaction ban, they would report that to the administrators' noticeboard for incidents, and then a reviewing administrator would likely block the offender from editing temporarily. Note that if you are reporting an editor on that noticeboard you are required to notify them - you will see instructions when you try to edit the page. Posted New page[edit]

Hello,

I recently finished the creation of a new page for Adraint Khadafi Bereal in Sandbox and believe I sent it in for submission. Is this the case? i don't see any way to verify it was submitted for review — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rlellis13 (talkcontribs) 15:39, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Rlellis13 You have not yet submitted the draft for review, you need to click the "Submit your draft for review!" button in the box at the top of the draft. However, if you were to submit it now, it would be rejected quickly, as it is completely unsourced and has little content. A Wikipedia article must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about a person, showing how they meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable person. Please read Your First Article. You may also want to first spend time gaining experience editing existing articles first, to get a feel for what is being looked for. 331dot (talk) 15:44, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[]
@Rlellis13: It looks like you created the page in the main sandbox with this edit. The main sandbox gets cleared regularly, as it is used by anyone and everyone. If you copy that edit into your own sandbox at User:Rlellis13/sandbox and then follow @331dot:'s advice you may meet with more success. DuncanHill (talk) 15:49, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[]

@Blaze The Wolf: I did, that's why I corrected it it before you posted the above. But I do know what you mean, I have a hard time biting my tongue about some of the typos I see. DuncanHill (talk) 16:01, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[]
(edit conflict) @Rlellis13: It appears that you added information to Draft:Sandbox in this edit, replacing the text that states "Please leave this part alone" and "The page is cleared regularly". I moved your text to Draft:Adraint Bereal so you can keep working on it (e.g. add proper footnotes per Help:Referencing for beginners). When you're ready, you can add {{subst:submit}} to the draft to submit it for review.
If you are Bereal or have any conflict of interest (which I am presuming you have based on the photographs you uploaded as your "own work"), you must declare your COI on your user page. Thanks, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 15:50, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Any reason why I'm singled out?[edit]

I was looking over the list of Dragon Award Best Sci-Fi Novel nominees since 2016 and noticed something odd.

Why am I the only author without a Wikipedia page link? Every single other sci-fi author has one except me. Care to explain?

If it will help y'all out, you can just cut and paste my entry on Everpedia.

Close to half of those authors don't have articles - red links indicate that there's a link but no article. It's just that nobody has made your name into an internal link, be it red or blue. I've fixed that part, and eventually editors will write articles for all of those red links. Acroterion (talk) 00:17, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
Actually, an article at Richard Paolinelli was deleted in 2016 at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Richard Paolinelli. If an article has been deleted then it's common to not redlink the old title, since a red link encourages creation of an article. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:49, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
Paolinelli was nominated the next year, so there might be better source material now. As for Everipedia, we can't cite that any more than we can cite internally within Wikipedia. Acroterion (talk) 00:56, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
And no, we can't paste this article of Everipedia. We can't even cite it. Here's why. -- Hoary (talk) 00:54, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
Hey, that's progress at least. Hopefully someone will come along and populate the article at some point down the line. Thanks for doing that! I appreciate it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C67:217F:DE0F:3069:847E:BBE:6B92 (talk) 01:08, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Dealing with targeted harassment[edit]

For the past several days I have been harassed across wikis on my talk page by an IP user. Every day they leave comments on a different talk page on a wiki, many which I didn't even know existed. Then, I have to report the harassment and the admin blocks the IP and they move on to a different wiki. It is annoying and tiresome. Is there any way I am able to protect my talk pages across wikis to *prevent* further harassment? Citrivescence (talk) 03:01, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Do you mean harassment on your talk page across the Wikipedias of different languages? (Guessing that you might mean this, I looked in fr, de, es and en; but noticed nothing.) Or do you mean something else? Perhaps you could link to a couple of examples. -- Hoary (talk) 05:05, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
It is serious. I am sorry to read this. Though I am new here, please let me know if there is any way I can help. Kalyan1010 (talk) 07:29, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
The easiest way is to turn off (or at least ignore) notifications from other wikis (Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-echo->Cross-wiki notifications). A global block of 2600:6C40:5400:1D2B::/64 (block range · block log (global) · WHOIS (partial)) should help, which I see has already been requested. Make sure you ask for, and get, a block of the /64 range instead of individual IPs (WP:64). -- zzuuzz (talk) 10:18, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Wikilink to WikiProject Page[edit]

Hello, I wish to add a Wikilink to an "official" Wikipedia page, similar to the help pages (the Welcome Committee, particularly). I understand that, generally, Wikilinks are used to connect articles with articles and not with such non-article pages – is it alright for me to do so? Regards, ASploopyPerson (talk) 05:03, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

@ASploopyPerson: Which page are you trying to link to which article? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 05:19, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
Hello, ASploopyPerson. Wikilinks are used on all sorts of pages in Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects; but it is very unusual to link from an article to something which is not an article (which is what I guess you are talking about). Why would you want to do that? --ColinFine (talk) 13:31, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
@Tenryuu 🐲 @ColinFine I'm in the process of making an encyclopedic article on welcome committees in general. I want to say something along these lines in it: "Wikipedia's welcome committee, as an example, has the purpose of helping new users with finding certain functionalities and usages of the website." Should I, or would it be necessary or better to refer to something else as an example? I haven't found any articles on particular welcome committees; I only have found Wikipedia's. ASploopyPerson (talk) 18:05, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
I would say No, ASploopyPerson. Either find an independent source that talks about WP:WC, and cite the source; or leave it out, as original research. Sorry. --ColinFine (talk) 20:28, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
I concur with ColinFine, ASploopyPerson. This kind of veers into Wikipedia:CIRCULAR. If an independent reliable source mentions Wikipedia's welcoming committee, than it could be considered; otherwise, this is essentially original research. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 22:01, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

This article is filled with dead links. Most of its claims, including awards, are substantiated by dead links. Even the final link redirects to a pornsite. I am not experienced enough to deal with this. Please take a look. Thanks--176.229.152.167 (talk) 08:39, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Thank you for pointing this out. For me, the last reference redirected to a gambling website. I've fixed this, and only this. I'd do more, but I'm pushed for time right now. Somebody else, please take over. -- Hoary (talk) 09:17, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
This article is still filled with dead links. Most of its claims, including awards, are substantiated by dead links.--176.229.152.167 (talk) 13:50, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

dumb question: how do you become admin[edit]

I want to become admin in the future. How do i do that? Please tell me how MikeShinoda2001 (talk) 09:21, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

MikeShinoda2001 You spend years developing a good edit history that shows that you understand Wikipedia policies and content guidelines, and demonstrate that you have a need for the administrator toolset, and gain an overwhemling community consensus that you should have the tools. Note that probably 95% of things here can be done without being an administrator. Having the administrator tools conveys no special status or authority- administrators have no more authority than any other editor. See WP:RFA and some of the pages linked to at the top there for more information. It's more difficult than it may seem. 331dot (talk) 09:42, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
thanks for the info, ill refer to this for future purposes MikeShinoda2001 (talk) 10:22, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

How can I add a side bar?[edit]

I would like to add a side bar like the info box on this page as an example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Barcelona. I would like to add the info under the Barca logo on my page..... Where can I find how to do it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by YolandeHudson (talkcontribs) 11:42, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Hello, YolandeHudson. I'm guessing you are referring to an infobox. If you're talking about your sandbox User:YolandeHudson/sandbox, then you probably want Template:infobox company. The easiest way to put one in an article is to find an existing article about the same kind of subject which has an infobox, "Edit source" on that article, and copy the entire infobox (from {{infobox whatever to the matching }}) into your draft, and edit the content appropriately.
But, if you are talking about that sandbox, then your question is the equivalent of "I've thrown up a house with no foundations, that's probably going to fall down: how can I add a balcony to it?" An infobox is a nice-to-have, but not an essential part of an article. Independent sources, on the other hand, are an absolutely non-negotiable essential to any Wikipedia article (that's why I say "with no foundations"). Almost every one of your citations is to the company itself, and the few that aren't are mostly based on press releases from the company. Wikipedia is not interested in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. I suggest you build a solid article (you may find you need to dynamite the lot and start again once you've found the sources) before worrying about an infobox. You also need to lose the promotional language.
Personally, I would advise you (as I always advise new editors who plunge straight into creating an article) to put it aside for a few months while you learn how Wikipedia works by making edits to some of our six million existing articles. Then read your first article, and NCORP. And if you have any connection with Hudson group (as I guess you may have from your name) you need to read paid editing carefully, and WP:NOTPROMO as well. --ColinFine (talk) 13:52, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Where do I ask about the general reliability of a source[edit]

Is there an appropriate place to ask about the general reliability of a website/source? I'm aware of WP:RSN, but unless someone has a specific instance of a source being potentially unreliable and they are trying to get the source added to WP:RSP someone else always seems to chime in to tell them that you shouldn't ask about the general reliability of a source at RSN. For instance, without even looking at archived discussions I found someone asking about the general reliability of The Irish Times where someone chimed in to ask for a specific issue rather than discussing the general reliability of the source. Everytime I read through RSN to try and understand the process there at least one or two people are getting chided for a similar question. TipsyElephant (talk) 16:55, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

AFC Reviewer Question[edit]

Where do I go to ask questions about what I'm allowed to do as an AFC reviewer? For instance, I was curious how much I can contribute to an article that I accept (i.e. I can easily find sources that demonstrate notability but they haven't been cited yet). TipsyElephant (talk) 16:55, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

TipsyElephant, the best place to ask is at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation. StarryGrandma (talk) 17:44, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Edit requests for pages from individuals who would have a COI on the subject[edit]

First, please accept my apology for not knowing the ropes and for not spending enough time to teach myself those ropes prior to asking this question. I am a newly registered Editor, however, one of the first things I learned was that it is a conflict of interest for me to edit any of the pages in my area of expertise and interest.

Of course I'm not going to break the only rule I'm aware of so far, but I have information that is new to the subject of "pickleball" for the pickleball page. Is there a streamlined way of connecting with Wikipedians to present the information?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Brady Whittingham — Preceding unsigned comment added by InformationPower (talkcontribs) 20:12, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

InformationPower Hello and welcome. It's not a conflict of interest if you like pickleball and want to edit about it. It might be if you work for a pickleball team or association or some other pickleball group. What is the nature of your COI? 331dot (talk) 20:16, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Actually I am involved on the business side of a game that was derived from pickleball. By the way, was I supposed to click edit, or talk to respond to your comment? — Preceding unsigned comment added by InformationPower (talkcontribs) 20:51, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

You responded correctly. (Talk goes to a different page) You are welcome to make an edit request(click for instructions) on the relevant article talk page.(for example Talk:Pickleball) 331dot (talk) 20:55, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Perfect. Thank you so much for your quick response, I will go there and start the discussion...I'll find pickleball editors on that talk page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by InformationPower (talkcontribs) 20:57, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

[this the correct way of connecting?] I'm not familiar enough with this visual editor to feel confident that I'm going to be effective at sharing information - is there a way to just email content or post links to content for an editor to evaluate? — Preceding unsigned comment added by InformationPower (talkcontribs) 21:10, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

That's fine to do. Wikipedia business ideally should be conducted on Wikipedia, for openness and transparency. You may simply detail the edits you wish to see and post links to citations for that information, if you mark it at the top of that section as an edit request with {{edit request}}, it will be seen by other editors to evaluate. 331dot (talk) 21:13, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Perfect. Thank you!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by InformationPower (talkcontribs) 22:25, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Adding Dr Majors and creating orofile[edit]

Dr Richard Majors the well known Black Psychologist former Clinical Fellow at Harvard Medical School and book author of such bestselling books like Cool Pose is a native of Ithaca NY born and raised. Most people on this list might of attended Cornell univ and therefore lived in Ithaca while attending Cornell but are not from Ithaca. Dr Majors was born and raised in Ithaca and he is Black. Dr Majors is one of the few Black famous figures and role model from the Black Community in Ithaca and you refuse to put him on the notables list of people from Ithaca or create a profile if him on Wikipedia this is so unfair to just promote the Whites why?

Frank native of Ithaca NY — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frank choco (talkcontribs) 21:11, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]

Frank choco Wikipedia does not have "profiles", not a single one. Wikipedia has articles. Those articles summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage choose to say on their own about a topic, showing how it meets Wikipedia's special definition of notability. The race of the person has nothing to do with if they merit a Wikipedia article or not, it depends on the sources. 331dot (talk) 21:15, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
Frank choco If he's notable in the special Wikipedia sense of that word, then someone could create an article about him, and then he could be added to the list: whether or not he meets the appropriate notability criteria is the only consideration that would be used to decide whether the article is accepted or not (assuming, of course, that the article actually demonstrates that notability by citing suitable sources).
Promotion, of anything, is explicitly contrary to Wikipedia's core policies – see WP:Five pillars.
It looks to me from a brief web-search that Dr Richard Major might be notable enough for an article. The only way to find out for sure is to (correctly) draft one and submit it.
All of Wikipedia's content is written by unpaid volunteers like you and me who choose to do so, and nobody can be assigned the task of writing a particular article. Right now, you are that best person to start drafting an article, because you have shown an interest in the subject. Why not learn how by taking The Wikipedia Adventure and then following the instructions in Your First Article? {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.193.128.221 (talk) 22:19, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[]
