People Learning to Increase Happiness and Confidence - NYC

This group has the purpose to help people become happier in their lives by imparting tools for everyday use. We have guest speakers who are successful people from the New York area who have a desire to help. Help is possible just as self betterment is possible. Our motto is "something can be done about it."

Have you ever gotten angry and not known why? Have you hurt a loved one? Do you introvert and become shy for no reason? Are you anxious? Do you want to be more successful or find the perfect relationship? Do you want to improve communication? How is your ability to love?

Happiness is an age old quest. It is elusive but is actually quite real and attainable. Happiness is basically the overcoming of obstacles toward a known goal. There are many tools and methods to help one do this. Our events will help you with:

Effects of past painful experiences

Setting goals in life

Understanding other people

Controlling yours and others' emotions

Finding ways to like people and life more

Creating better relationships and choosing the right friends or partners

The point is, there are things you can learn to increase your happiness, self-confidence and overall well being. This group will teach these tools.

We teach natural, common sense techniques and information to improve life.

The Organizer of this group is a successful artist, business woman and is a volunteer consultant of the Dianetics and Scientology life improvement Center New York.

Genuine Friends 50-70+ Long Island Ladies Group

Garden City, NY

Genuine Friends 50-70+ Long Island Ladies Group

You must attend a new member meetup to join the group. Join our waiting list and we will invite you to the next one.

Please be vaccinated to protect us all.

We plan a variety of fun events on LI and beyond - anything from eating to adventure. Do you remember when you were a kid and had friends you could always count on - a friendly face in a crowd of acquaintances? Well, that's what we are about. Genuine friendships with others whom you would love to have to your own home - a group of genuine friends.

Find people whom you are always happy to see - ones who share your interests and who won't cancel at the last minute or be a no show when they have something better to do. The age limits are just a suggestion - if you are a happy, active older person, this is for you too. Please be able to use a computer/android or iphone, and pay by Zelle.

Our events include brunches, book discussions, friendly chat, travel near and far, crafts, adventures, NYC, local theater, gardens, concerts, canasta, keeping fit, even star gazing or anything of interest to you and a few others. Most events take place in Nassau. This group is not suitable for those from mid to eastern Suffolk, Manhattan or Brooklyn.

Places will become available only as people leave the group or are inactive, or no shows at several events. I do remove inactive members on a regular basis to keep the group filled with only women interested in building real friendships. Please understand that not all membership requests are approved.

We do have admission standards. You are welcome to join if you are 50+, if you don't have a pattern of no shows with other groups, are free of drama, and if you can bring a smile to the our next meetup. If you are normal, sane, and secure, you'll get in! Please have a real, recognizable photo of your face when you join, and a valid email address. If you are a cat, puddle or flower, you won't get in. We want to be able to recognize you at an event, and greet you as a friend.

We do post pictures of group events on Meetup and Facebook, so when you join, you are agreeing to be photographed.

Join my other group: http://www.meetup.com/Travel-Friends-Near-and-Far/

Our annual dues are $20 per year collected annually (year ends on April 14), paid at your first meetup, or by Zelle. Renewals are $20, paid by April 14.

To maintain your membership, you must attend at least one event every two months.

L Train Brass Band

Brooklyn, NY

L Train Brass Band

L Train Brass Band is a modular collective of nearly 100 brass, reed, and percussion musicians. This nonprofit community organization is composed of diversely talented musicians who are genuinely excited by the opportunity to play anywhere and everywhere, covering a wide variety of music, from pop and hip-hop—to funk and traditional NOLA jazz—to eclectic original charts. LTBB embodies a music for life ethos by empowering busy adults to pick up an instrument and make music within a safe, structured environment that promotes creative self-expression and welcomes individuals from all musical backgrounds and walks of life.

The L Train Brass Band's membership includes both experienced musicians and adventurous amateur players looking for something new and exciting in their musical lives. While members should have basic music-reading proficiency, we're open to all levels so long as members attend rehearsals as regularly as they can.

Important Percussion Update

Thanks so much for your interest in joining the L Train Brass Band! Please note: the percussion section for the brass band is currently full. But never fear, drummers! We have a separate drumline group called 3rd Rail Drumline for interested percussionists (and non-percussion players, we take all skill levels including beginner!) If you are interested in joining 3rd Rail Drumline, Meetup announcements for this group begin with “🥁 3rd Rail Drumline...” If you have any questions, please feel free to contact [email protected].

Important Dues Update (effective April 14, 2021)

Mandatory member dues are “waived” until further notice. As member dues are a critical part of maintaining our collective, we are seeking voluntary contributions in the form of donations that will go directly towards our operations. Details on how to donate will be provided separately by email or Slack message. Voluntary donations are tax-deductible and are suggested to be $15 per 3-month quarter.

When regular dues resume, updated instructions on how to set up your dues payments will go out 30 days in advance and you’ll have an additional 30 days to make your first payment. The “resume date” will be based on COVID guidelines, vaccination statistics, and our budgetary needs. When dues resume, the amount will remain at the current rate of $5.95 per month.

Basic Membership Expectations During Dues Suspension

In addition to the Meetup group, all new members must join the LTBB Slack workspace to be considered “active” in lieu of paying dues. New members who have not joined the Slack workspace within 30 days of joining the Meetup group will be removed by the Meetup organizers.

While certainly not required or enforced, we warmly encourage all members to check in on Slack for updates, participate in conversations, and attend at least one (online or in-person) event per month if possible.

Important FAQs (See more new member details and FAQs here)

IS THE BAND STILL ACTIVE DURING THIS TIME OF SOCIAL DISTANCING?

As active as we can be, that’s for sure! We have scheduled online mass-gatherings via Zoom as well as virtual game nights, workshops, and random fun (such as learning to cook with our lead clarinetist).

WHAT INSTRUMENTS CAN PLAY IN THE BAND?

Our instrumentation is inspired by a mix of NOLA trad jazz and European brass band traditions, and specifically includes: clarinet, saxes (alto, tenor, & bari), trumpet, middle brass (F & Eb horns), trombone, baritone/euphonium, sousaphone, and percussion.

WHEN DO YOU MEET AND DO I NEED TO ATTEND EVERYTHING?

Under normal circumstances, our regular rehearsals are held every Sunday at noon, with gigs and events scattered over evenings and weekends. We suggest that you come to a minimum of two rehearsals a month to keep up with the repertoire, but you are not required to attend every event or rehearsal. NOTE: See "Basic Membership Expectations During Dues Suspension" above for more information on virtual attendance expectations during the pandemic.

DOES IT COST ANYTHING TO BE IN THE BAND?

After a 30-day free trial, our members pay mandatory dues, currently fixed at only $5.95 per month. NOTE: Mandatory dues are currently waived, please see above for “Important Dues Update” for details. Dues subsidize rehearsal space rent, parade fees, marketing materials, digital service fees, and more. 100% of members' dues contributions benefit the collective as a whole (no one receives a paycheck). Our dues minimize out of pocket expenses and keep our members showing up for each other.
