About ArchiverFS

The file archiving solution for servers and network storage systems that lets you use any device as second tier storage.

Featuring a tiny footprint on the host system along with full support for cloud, DFS, replication, de-duplication, and compression ArchiverFS lets you use any NAS, SAN or cloud platform as storage for your old unstructured files. If you can share it to the network with a UNC path and format it with NTFS then you can use it as second line storage. At no point do we use a database to store files, pointers to files or file meta data. ArchiverFS uses pure NTFS from start to finish.

ArchiverFS lets you move your old unused files on-mass from you primary first tier storage to secondary storage whilst persisting all file attributes, permissions and directory structures.

A selection of links can be left behind in place of old files that have been moved including completely seamless symbolic links that look and behave just like the original file.

"Small software has big features. "

    Edited 2020-08-22

Pros: It utilizes Windows native feature - Symbolic link or Shortcut to archive files from one shared folder to another shared folder which can be locally or remotely, it's transparent to end users.

It inherits same permissions from source at destination side as security consideration which is a common concern from business.

It maintains Symbolic links via maintenance job.

The software provider reacts on requirements and issues real quick.

Cons: Unfortunately it doesn't support Linux.
The performance of running multiple (>5) jobs simultaneously might be degraded.

Overall: I like this product overall although it's not running very smoothly in our env because of improper permission management.
It will be great if permission management on your file server is clean strategically.

    "Rescue for file servers"

    Posted 2020-08-13

Pros: Simple but powerful user interface.
    Very customizable archiving policy.
    Support for DFS shares.
    The support is awesome.

Cons: Maybe the perpetual licensing plans should be more flexible.

Overall: A very great solution for archiving old files from DFS or simple file server.
The maintenance job take care of file renaming, NTFS permission changes and moves recently used files back to production file server.
