    Hey Boone,

Sup! I’m trying to get the DiRT Directory plugin working on a new CBox site. I had it working a week or two ago, briefly, but then dirtdirectory.org was down for awhile. It’s back online now, but now I can’t seem to get the plugin working properly. Here’s all I see when I enable the plugin on a group:

    Screenshot: screenshot of Dirt Directory

Members can’t seem to search for tools and add them to their profiles the way I thought they could before. Is it me, or the way I’ve configured groups, or did the DIRT Directory API maybe change in its downtime in such a way as to break the plugin?

  • By the way, I’m using a child theme of the default cbox-theme, so it should be compatible.

    Hi, @amandafrench!

I’m a little confused about the screenshot you shared. The stuff above the ‘Digital Research Tools’ headline doesn’t appear to have anything to do with the plugin (maybe it’s the group description?). What I see at the bottom of the screenshot looks correct so far as it goes, but is there anything below it?

The way a group page like this works is: if any member of the current group has already indicated “I use this” for any DiRT tool, then the item will show up on the list on the group page. So if you see nothing here, it could be that no group members have linked themselves to any DiRT tools.

The DiRT browsing tools can be found on the /tool/ page, which is outside the group. The ‘Digital Tools Directory’ link from your screenshot should take you there.

Thanks for the reply, @boone! Yes, the stuff above is the group description. No, there’s nothing below the bottom of the screen (apart from the site footer etc.). Clicking the “Digital Tools Directory” link does take me to the /tool/ page, but it 404s. Admittedly this might be because I’ve renamed “Groups” to “Projects” throughout, including a couple places in the buddypress plugin itself (which I mean to fix once I’ve had a chance to remember how to do it in functions.php), so let me roll that back and see if that helps.

No users have currently indicated “I use this,” but I’m not sure how they would so indicate. Do they do that on the /tool/ page? Can you point me to a site where it’s working so that I can see how it’s supposed to work?

Yes, the ‘I use this’ toggles must originate from /tool/. Once some users have indicated tool connections, ‘I use this’ buttons will start showing up in other places – like on user profiles, group tabs, etc. Here’s what the page looks like on the CUNY Academic Commons: https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/tool/ When logged in, you can see the ‘I use this’ links.

If /tool/ is 404ing, it could be a permalink issue. Try flushing yours at Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks, and saving your existing setting.

Ah, that’s done it! Resetting permalinks (as usual) fixed the 404. So simple. And I can see now how it’s supposed to work.

I think I’ll turn it off for Groups, though, and just have it available from user profiles and from the /tool/ page.

Forgot to say thanks, @boone. Thanks!

Whoo! Glad it’s working now. Feel free to ping again if you find other issues. (And nice to hear from you!)
