Support » Theme: Twenty Twenty-One » Remove line under header

    I’m very new to creating a website and using WordPress ,so please don’t come up with coding/CSS as I don’t understand it.
    The theme information for Twenty Twenty-One (on which I’ve added Options for Twenty Twenty-One plug-in) displays a page with just a little space under the header and above the main content. Previewing my draft page shows a little space under the header items but then a bold black line across the page and some further space before the age content. Why is there this line (and space) and how do I remove it? As far as I know I’ve set padding as small as it will go.
    Many thanks

  • Can you please confirm that you have published your changes in the Customizer? It may be that your Customizer is set to “Save Draft” instead of “Publish”. If so, click the cog next to “Save Draft”, select “Publish” and click “Publish”.

    If this doesn’t help, please provide a link to the site so we can inspect what’s going on.

    Thanks,

    Oliver

    Thanks very much for the quick reply. The Customiser (UK spelling!) was set to Publish; I changed to Save Draft and back again but made no difference. Even Published the draft page online, but still the same (have reverted to draft as I’m still building and trying out different design approaches).
    I put a photo behind the header, which rather highlights the problem as there is an unwanted gap below the photo and then the black line, etc.
    Site is https://edastest.org.uk/.
    And now I find I cant place the logo right and navigation left!

    I know you didn’t ask for CSS, but try copy/pasting this via Additional CSS in the Customizer:

    .singular .entry-header {
        border-bottom: none;
    }

    That will remove the line under page titles, which I think is what you’re referring to.

    Many thanks to James and Oliver for both their speed and helpfulness.
    I’ll keep the CSS for possible use when I perhaps understand it better.
    And, re Oliver’s suggestions, I thought I’d reduced all the relevant sliders, but clearly not – I’m still learning what all the options actually do and didn’t always understand the terminology in the Options for 2021 description or link them to the terms used in the Customiser.
    Anyway, I did as suggested and it worked fine – problem solved, thank you.

    And now I ‘understand’ about the 404 error (maybe):
    I’m still trying out various designs and the site has things I will need to clear up/out once complete, like unused themes. But I added content to the Home page in a design I’m initially happy with and published it, password protected BUT:
    – I can get into the home page from another device without a password
    – the header and footer are there but not the content. This is hardly much use after the effort I’ve put in, so what is the problem and how can it be solved quickly so I can continue to work on the site?

    I’m becoming concerned that nothing seems to have happened for some time since you noticed what I guess is a bug (?) that is stopping me working further on this site (and it needs a lot of work).
    I have published, password protected, just one page edastest.org.uk/home – the header and footer appear, as well as some of the content, but my society’s title and logo don’t, presumably affected by the “nothing here” problem?
    Can you fix this or should I, perhaps, delete everything and start again?

    We’ve just noticed that none of these sliders have an effect on the “Nothing here” 404 page which we will look into and report back when fixed.

    Not sure who you are referring to in your last message, @geoff1t but the above issues have been resolved in the last version of the plug-in.

    And now I’m confused:
    “Who am I referring to? Well, I guess the person who wrote the ‘we’ve just noticed…’ point repeated above, which seems to be you, Oliver.
    If it was fixed then, as promised in that point, no-one has actually reported back (I can’t see anything in this string of messages; can you?)
    You suggest that it was fixed in the last version of the plug-in. Well, I’ve just gone back to my site and there is no update pending for Options for Twenty Twenty-One so I guess I’m on the latest version (1.5.5). I have, in any case, allowed auto updates.
    The fact is that I still have the problem or I wouldn’t have written – it still shows ‘Nothing Here’ in some views and looking at the site online, as above, the top part of my content isn’t visible.
    So what is happening??

    I see the “Nothing here” you’re referring to right at the front of https://edastest.org.uk/

    At Settings > Reading in your site’s Dashboard, do you have that front page set to display your latest posts? If so, it will display “Nothing here” until you publish a post.

    Or, do you have it set to display a specific page instead? If so, it will display “Nothing here” until you publish that page.

    Hello @geoff1t. Just to clarify, the issues we found from your original post only affected the mentioned sliders in the “Options for Twenty Twenty-One” plugin when viewing the “Nothing here” page which, as mentioned, have now been fixed in the latest version of the plugin.

    Please note that your original post was asking how to remove the “space and line”.

    So, moving on to your issue with your content … James has provided information as to why your site is showing “Nothing here”.

    It looks like your site and logo are not showing because you have selected not to show them. Try going to “Customizer – Site Identity – Display Site Title and Tagline”, tick that box and click “Publish”.

    Obviously if you mention different issues later on in the same support thread you are going to make things confusing for those trying to help you.

    I hope that helps.

    Thank you to both James and Oliver for prompt replies which solve the problem (though note re Oliver’s response that I deliberately kept title and logo out of the heading so it is actually in the content). Apologies for delay in responding but I’ve been away. Also apologies for including a new problem in the same post; wasn’t sure how best to treat this as the ‘Nothing Here’ was mentioned in this string. Will start a new post if I have more problems.
