In 2003 the population of the country was estimated at 104,000,000. The official language is Spanish, making Mexico the largest Spanish-speaking nation in the world. There are, however, a total of 234 languages spoken. The population falls into three main groups: Mestizo – 55%, Amerindian – 28%, and Euro-American – 15.3%.

Education and Health

87% of Mexico’s adult population is literate although functional literacy is probably lower.

Primary education is available for all children between the ages of 6-12 years, and is compulsory. A growing number of young people are enrolled in secondary, preparatory and further education. There are also many private educational institutions, and many families, middle class and higher, would consider private education as an essential contribution to their children’s futures.

Health conditions have improved dramatically since 1931 when Mexico passed its first Social Security Law. Life expectancy has increased to 76 years for women and 69 years for men. In 1993 infant mortality rated at 29 per 1,000 live births. Mexico now has one physician for every 1,200 people.

The most receptive hearts
Half the population of Mexico is under 20 years old.

You’ve heard of the 10/40 Window…

These kids represent the 4/14 Window!  Kids between the ages of 4 & 14 are the most receptive to the Gospel.

“Christian camps use the most effective means of reaching the most receptive hearts.”
