FALL BRIEF | 9/2/2020

CUNY faculty researchers have recently received $8.5 million in prestigious grants to support cutting-edge work across a spectrum of fields, including spinal cord injuries and young adults with autism.

“Improving and innovating teaching strategies was front and center before the coronavirus, and we haven’t let the scramble to put courses online throw us off track,” writes Chancellor Matos Rodríguez of the premium CUNY places on state-of-the-art pedagogy.

Students concerned about their digital privacy have a right to decline the terms of agreement of proctoring software, and should let their instructor know. CUNY is considering two possible vendors to do online assessments, and finalizing that process.

Milan Fredricks, CUNY SPS '20, got back on her feet after recovering from the toughest years of her life. She developed lifelong relationships as a student government leader and founding member of the student-run digital newspaper at SPS, and she credits the school for preparing her for graduate studies in strategic communications at Columbia.

Milan’s advice: “Get involved as much as you can! So many doors were opened for me because I stepped up and stepped into the amazing community at SPS. You’ll be amazed at how much you get back when you give.”
