For everyone in San Francisco the WordPress Meetup is tomorrow (Saturday) at 4 PM. However there is a slight misunderstanding about the location. All week I’ve been telling everyone it’s going to be at the Border’s at Union Square, when at the meetup site it’s listed as a Border’s someplace way out of town. So to clarify, I’m going to be at the Border’s at Union Square Saturday at 4 PM, not anywhere else. We’ll meet in the cafe and eat, drink, and be merry. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

Here’s the store information. I hear the best parking is at Stockton and Sutter. We’re on the second floor.

As you may have heard, you can now meet up with people in your area also cool enough to use WordPress, an activity that is being coordinated at wordpress.meetup.com. Be a part of history as the very first WordPress meetup ever is not this Saturday but the one after that, the 26th. Saturday, June 26 @ 4:00PM, mark your calendars!

As fate would have it I will be in the San Francisco Bay area and I’ve signed up for that city for this meetup. (I voted for the Borders.) I’ll be happy to talk about super-secret future WordPress plans, Pingomatic, GMPG, anything you guys want, but more importantly I’d love to meet SF WordPress users and hear what you have to say. I’ve opened up comments on this post, so leave one if you’re in the area and coming to the meeting and I’ll add your link to this post.

In the past month or two it has become apparent that there is a whole in the discussion fora for WordPress. For new users and troubleshooting we have the easy-to-use support forums, now tens of thousands of posts strong. For the documentation team we have a forum, and mailing list, and the wiki. For general chat we have the IRC channel. But for discussion of core WordPress development, the plugin API, and building applications on top of WordPress, there really isn’t a place yet.

No longer. I’ve set up a new mailing list specifically for advanced WordPress development discussion, wp-hackers. It is a public, open list for WordPress development. Come on in and feel free to lurk or participate.

I’d like to start some serious discussion on the plugin API in 1.3, so if you’re a plugin developer or other interested party please sign up.

I’ve set up bug tracking software at https://mosquito.wordpress.org/ and already people have begun to sign up. There is a lot of work that needs to be done to get the bug tracker up to WordPress standards, but the process has begun.
