Crazy talk – Image Optimizer

So, I have tons if not most of my images on my blog without optimization. So I think Google is penalizing me because of my slow speeds. Infact, I don’t even show in Google, and I think it’s due to my slow speeds,
www.droptodesign.comI have wp-cache and some image optimization through pro photo, but when I run Google page speed, it constantly comes back with suggestions to optimize images especially in my galleries.
So here is the crazy idea I have, there’s software for the mac https://imageoptim.com/howto.html It optimizes in bulk.
So would it be possible to download all my images from WordPress via ftp, optimize them using the software and the re-upload them to WordPress via FTP?

You can use ImageOptim, and I usually use that before uploading my images. However, I suggest a much easier solution. There are WordPress plugins that will do that for you.
The two I recommend are:
EWWW Image Optimizer and
Smush Image Compression and Optimization.Both allow you to optimize all of your images in your WordPress site. EWWW can be started from Media > Bulk Optimize and it will scan all images and optimize them for you. WP Smush will optimize them in batches of 50 I believe, and paying for the premium version will do them all at once.
