After updating to 5.3.2, event importing functionality breaks. It only allows 5 items to import, then it hangs.

Downgrading back to 5.3.1.1 restores event import functionality. FYI

I have the same issue, and rolling back to 5.3.1.1 fixed the problem. For anyone hunting for version 5.3.1.1, you can find it here:
