I’m on mobile for the week.
To test for a plugin or theme conflict switch to a default theme and deactivate any plugins that aren’t specific to The Events Calendar.
Does the issue still exist? If no, reactivate your theme, then reactivate plugins one by one until you see the problem again.
It’s likely a theme conflict or a multi-language issue.

I switched to theme twentyseventeen.
Deactivated all plugins.
Activated the events calendar, – pro and cat. colors.
Still the same.

Everything fine. The settings were wrong, while having multiple categories.
