This section is for CUNY faculty and staff involved in the development and modification of academic programs. Its purpose is to provide easy access to the most updated version of guidelines and forms required in the process. We welcome all suggestions for improving this site as well as for additional materials you would like to see included.

OAA DEADLINE CALENDAR

There are two OAA deadline calendars. The CAPPR Agenda Calendar is for items that are placed directly onto the CAPPR Agenda to be voted upon individually such as new program proposals; new institute proposals; establishment of new, and the reorganization of existing schools and academic departments and university wide policies as well as new center proposals which are information items on the agenda.  The Academic Reports Calendar is for more routine items which are approved by the CUNY Board of Trustees either directly through The CAPPR Dashboard Report or indirectly by the Office of Academic Affairs in the Academic University Report.

NEW PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

If a college or school is considering a new program START HERE. Notice of Intent for a new degree programs must be circulated to all CUNY institutions by the central Office of Academic Affairs via the OAA proposals’ Listserve.  Colleges and Schools will have 21 days once the Notice of Intent is circulated to review the document. Only comments from Chief Academic Officer’s should be sent to the central office if there is a concern.

Chief Academic Officers interested in proposing new programs should fill out the Notice of Intent for all newly proposed programs and e-mail it to [email protected] prior to developing the proposal.

REVIEW PROCESS ON CERTIFICATES

All certificates need to receive proper approval on campus and be submitted via the CAPPR Report.  Corresponding application forms and detailed information.

CREATION OF CENTERS, INSTITUTES, AND CONSORTIA

Centers, Institutes, and Consortia play an important role in the University’s endeavors by meeting needs which fall outside the customary domains of academic departments. Since these organized research, non-credit instruction, and training initiatives do not operate under the established rules and regulations which govern departments, there is a distinct set of policy guidelines to provide for their orderly approval and administration.

REQUESTS TO AWARD HONORARY DEGREES

The Office of Academic Affairs is also responsible for coordinating the central administration’s vetting of individuals to whom any CUNY college or school wishes to award an honorary degree prior to those requests being voted on by CAPPR and the full Board of Trustees. Click the heading of this section to be directed to a page containing a Guide to submissions (with deadlines included) and the request form.

FACULTY APPOINTMENTS – WAIVERS & APPLICATIONS OF BY-LAWS AND REQUESTS FOR SALARY ABOVE BASE (SAB)

The Office of Program Review is also responsible for overseeing the applications and waivers of various bylaws to academic appointments, faculty degree equivalencies and compensation.

GUIDE TO WRITING SPECIFIC RESOLUTIONS FOR THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR THE CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK

The purpose of this handbook is to empower CUNY colleges to draft effective, well-formatted resolutions regarding early tenures, distinguished professorships, program proposals, honorary degrees and other types of resolutions to be presented to BOT committees for approval.  All questions should be directed to Jason Brooks, Professional Communications Writer, Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and University Provost.
