Hi there,
I’m not sure I totally understand the issue — it sounds like maybe some buttons have been moved around?
I took a look at my own WordPress installation, and noticed that there is an ability to preview a post or page that is in progress if you click “Preview in a new tab”.
Are we looking at the same thing? Check out this screenshot here. That will open the page prior to having to update it.
I see what you mean about not having that ability to immediately view the updated page, though.
However, I can also quickly view the actual page as it is (prior to any updates I haven’t yet published or after) by going to my dashboard, hovering over the post or page, and clicking this link:

It might be one extra step, but I was able to access it quickly with those steps. I hope that helps as a work-around! 🙂
If you turn off fullscreen, you can see the View Post/Page button in its old spot above the editing area.

Hi Sarah,
Thanks for the reply. I do know about the “preview” option you have shown. But when you use the “Preview in new tab” option you get a temporary URL for the page instead of it actually switching you back from editing the page into the front end page version.
E.g. homepage URL http://www.myweb.com/contact when you preview that page after an edit the URL is http://www.myweb.com/preview_id=2405&preview_nonce=e3fa31e744&preview=true&_thumbnail_id=5698
And I don’t want all the extra steps to have to go to my All pages screen to then view the page. In the old editor you could click the “Edit page” option from the top admin bar, make your edits to the page/post, then go back to the top admin bar and switch back to “View page”. That option is now only available in that temporary pop up which appears when you save the updates. Wait a second too long and it disappears.
When I’m desiging pages for clients (like now) it interupts my workflow. Hoping it’ll be added back in as an easy access option.
@rickymccallum87 Thank you! I do like full screen mode without the side admin bar but this at least gives me the View page option back. Would be awesome though if they had the View page option in the gutenberg editor toolbar (next to the Details and Outline buttons maybe)..
Thanks for that though.. will make my day easier.
