    I was proud to join Senate Democrats yesterday to introduce this legislation to restore the full protections of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. It is our constitutional duty to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act—to protect our democracy.

    We need the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to fight racial discrimination in voting. This country still has a large disparity in turnout between white voters and voters of other races.

    I’m saddened by this decision, but remain committed to protecting immigrants who call America home—including over 20,000 TPS holders and 9,000 DACA recipients in VA. We are stronger thanks to their contributions, and I will not rest until we put them on the path to citizenship.
