Westward Builders Inc
5.0
Westward Builders just finished a wonderful construction for a new studio on a hillside. A big part of the job was excavating the hillside and build a huge retaining wall. We did not even dream that it could go so smoothly and be so aesthetically pleasant. The wall is a real piece of art and the look is very trendy. Somebody told us that it is very hard to find somebody in San Francisco to do this design . Terry Keast knew exactly what to do and helped us all the way with judicious advices. Stunning results. He gave us the best proposal for the job and he kept the expenses very close to the allocated budget even though he had to do more work that planned at the beginning. His crew was very skilled and efficient. All the workers were delightful, hardworking, punctual and discreet. They worked hard to save as many plants as possible when choosing the path for the heavy equipment. The job was done professionally and in a timely manner. The result is so stunning that even the inspector was amazed and opened big eyes in admiration when he came to check. As you suspect, we highly recommend Westward Builders. Our next door neighbor already hired him for a job.

C STILLE EXCAVATION

Chris did an excellent job. I paid him hourly - he always was very efficient, always showed up when he said he would and did a great job. When you are paying tractor rates, you need someone reliable like Chris. He has all the equipment you need for a large excavation job. He brought all equipment on site and only charged for the single piece he was driving at any given time. Some guys I got bids from only had a single piece of equipment (IE - backhoe, excavator). Chris's hourly rates were competitive, but I believe I would have spent at least twice as much with the other contractors who bid my job since no one else had the full range of equipment Chris has. For example, I own an excavator. It's the best tool for digging trenches or loading a dump truck, but not for moving/pushing large volumes of dirt for cut/fill which was most of the work on our job. Chris on his bulldozer can move large amounts of dirt at least 5x faster than my excavator. If I had hired a contractor who only had an excavator or backhoe, it would have cost a lot more!

Peninsula Concrete Contractors Inc

Peninsula Concrete rebuild two retaining walls in front of my house.one was 4.5" high and the other up to 8" high. The walls were previously wood and were rotting and leaning. They had a large crew with two excavators and began work on time. they excavated to install drainage and geogrid. All inspections were passed and they finished on time and within budget. The walls now look great and should last 100 years. Very satisfied and recommended.

W. Isaak Construction Inc. was a very good resource. He really knows the community. He seems to be really a good guy. He's very thoughtful about the job. We ended up going with somebody that was recommended by our closest friend. It was just a certain situation. But I wouldn't hesitate a minute to hire him. His prices were very reasonable. He's talented and can do so many things.

They were fine. I didn't use them because of the price. Their price wasn't that out of line. They were all pretty close but the other company was $100.00 cheaper. They were timely. They were good. I consider getting an estimate from them again.

All Go Plumbing & Construction

Had a water leak from the main JUST on my side of the meter. Got on Angie's List and researched a number of plumbers and selected All Go Plumbing and Construction. He arrived mid morning and gave me a quote for excavating and one for best case and another one for worst case. He was VERY confident that it was going to be best case. After excavating he found and showed me the problem. The home builder had installed at least 3 elbows just to connect to the main to the house and 2 were leaking. He cut out all the work and reinstalled elbows to realign to the main and let the joints cure. We had our water back on before dinner. It's been about a month and no leaks.

Lassiter Excavating

We had a small aging pool in our backyard that we no longer wanted. Within only a couple of weeks after I contacted Lassiter Excavating (aka Pool It Out), the pool is gone and the area is ready for landscaping. They took care to adequately compact the fill soil, saved some of the pavers and rock I wanted to reuse, avoided damage to the hardscape I wanted to retain, and left a tidy and well executed landscape area. Bryce and Carlos were wonderful to work with - prompt, professional, quick, and very reasonably priced. I highly recommend them for pool removal.

B Side Construction

After purchasing our new home we decided to add a ground level 1 bedroom apartment roughly 1000 square feet. The available space required some dirt removal to be able to build the appropriate apartment. After receiving several quotes me and my husband decided to go with B-Side Construction. They walked us through the building process and helped with the permits and the architect. the project took just about 2 months to complete. The house has a side entrance to the backyard so we never felt that the house was under construction, the workers were really nice and respectful to our property and us. I am not a construction expert but will do my best to explain what I saw. The build started with removal of the excess dirt to start the foundation for the apartment. Then came the framing and the floor, fallowed by the electrical and the plumbing work. Sheetrock was hung, patched, and painted. In the bathroom we decided to install tile, with all the appropriate accessories. the bedroom has a closet and a window, which was cut open in an existing wall and reinforced. The entire apartment has hardwood floors in each room except for the bathroom. The were even able to install a door in the back of the apartment and create a small storage space, really neat. The kitchen and the cabinets created very nice kitchen with black marble counter top. The entire apartment received 4 windows, front door, and a patio was built in front of the door in the back yard. We even asked if they could rebuild our fence which was falling apart at the time, so they agreed and gave us a fairly cheap price, since we were already doing the apartment they gave us a deal. Overall me and my husband are very pleased with the experience, for the money we invested and the price increase on our house, this was well worth it.

Green Earth Construction & Bobcat Service

I did thorough research to find an excavator to remove about 32 cubic yards of topsoil from my front lawn. After a number of positive responses, a few on-site evaluations, and a few bids, I landed on one excavator...who would later cancel with one day's notice. I began the process all over again. This is not something I enjoyed nor had time for. Nonetheless I called four more excavators. Rick returned my call promptly, was over at my house a few hours later, measured, calculated and provided a bid. He was not the cheapest however when compared to the other bids he was very reasonable. Plus he could get to the job when I wanted the job done. How did he do? As a professor of management, I can tell you that I am a stickler for quality and a complete fulfillment of contractual obligations. Rick delivered exactly what he promised to deliver and with no surprises. Moreover, he exceeded my expectations. His customer service and professionalism were excellent and his overall product was solid. The very next day I brought in about 40 cubic yards of organic topsoil. A big thanks to Rick for a wonderful job from beginning to end. I would give Rick Six Stars if I could.

Black Diamond Paver Stones & Landscape Inc
5.0
I am not sure I can remember all the details for the entire scope of work as I had quite a few change orders. Rick Del Prete was the lead on my project and made himself available to answer all my questions in a very timely fashion, from start to finish, even during a stretch when he needed to attend a funeral. I was not aware of til after but was very impressed by his continued contact and responsiveness. I was happy they put a port-a-potty on site so I could keep my bathroom private. Rick was also on site just about every day to inspect the large amount of workers coming and going and held them accountable to finishing certain items by certain times. The only times he wasn't there was to attend a funeral. Black Diamond worked very well with my continual change orders and complex nature of having to deal with various other contractors coordinating different types of work to complete my project and even had to wait until I had my house was finished being painted and patio slider door installed before beginning the project. They also worked in lock step with my electrician. Originally the project was to take a couple of weeks and the progress looked like they were going to finish on time but then the El Nino rains came and ended up pushing out the project (as well as my change orders only added to the delay). I discovered I had some drainage issues. Rick and his team were quick to find a solution and make the necessary corrections and have not had any drainage problems since. The estimate was right in line with others and even a little higher but I was suspicious that the other contractors didn't hear exactly what I was asking for and Rick took the time taking detailed notes on my every ask. In the end I couldn't be happier and got exactly what I wanted with all the finite details. They were very patient and worked with me. Not an easy feat since I am very particular and demanding about the ways things are done and I will say it, I am a bit high maintenance. It is obvious Black Diamond values the customer and are willing to work with you, after all this maybe a job for some companies but I think they understand from a customer perspective this is an investment...

Haul Now
5.0
Had a job completed using Haul Now (John Headman) and we are very, very satisfied with the work and the professionalism. Haul Now was to demolish two long aggregate pathways and the concrete planting strip between our driveway with a neighbor. John said he'd arrive between 9 am and 10 am, and was onsite at 8:50 a.m. They worked steady, carefully and professionally. We were given a price and informed it could change depending on conditions. It did cost slightly more, but that cost was more than justified. The old aggregate path to front door. once removed, had a rebarred, concrete sidewalk beneath it. A whole another layer of unforseen sidewalk to remove. Haul Now removed it, the cost increase was reasonable. The company will recycle the product too (we like that). The job took one long day to complete, but John returned to the house the following day to make sure, he was satisfied with their cleanup. Additionally, we overpaid for the work and John promptly reimbursed to us the overage. Nothing like working with a competent, friendly, professionals, and very honest contractor. If we need work again, we will call Haul Now and I recommend John to anyone in need of this type of service.

Ace Plumbing & Rooter

Excellent service, major job. Sewer backed up in basement, they arrived the day we called, even tho it was a weekend. Very thorough explanation of what needed to be done, and final price came in at exactly the estimate, even tho they had to excavate line from street INTO our house! "Joe the Plumber" was courteous and prompt, and showed us with the video exactly what the problem was. (We knew it would happen eventually, as the house was built in 1903!) We will definitely call them next time, although we hope that won't be too soon! They left a tiny mess of dirt and concrete, but nothing major considering the job.

Thor & his crew dug up invasive bamboo and then dug a trench for placement of a bamboo barrier. Although he doesn't advertise landscaping, he & his crew did a great job after discussing how to accomplish our goals. We earlier had his crew excavate the entire length of our fence for this same purpose (this took several days and was more expensive - $800) and we were so pleased that we had them come back and dig the trench along our front fence. We'll definitely be calling them back to finish off the last remaining area.
