I am having exactly the same problem!
I just joined the WordPress forums community for the same problem 3 hours ago. Surprised to see that no one has responded to your question in over a month. This issue appears to be commonplace with FB verifications.
Why are there no experienced users here helping ppl out? There’s a ton of unsolved issues. Hope we’re not wasting our time? In the meantime, I’m going to look for help somewhere else.

Hello, sorry for the delays, we’re working on getting a more robust level of support for this plugin. This is currently supported by me personally in my spare time, which I’m short on these days!
Can you provide me with more information on what kind of meta tag you need to add to your site, what your tag setting looks like (a screenshot would probably be best), and maybe a URL to your site so we can see what’s on there?

Hi @ginaweng I need more information, a screenshot of your settings may help, as well as what kind of meta tag you’re expecting to output (I assume to the homepage).

Hello everyone, I’ve just had a look and was able to verify a domain without issue. For me it was immediate, but it may take up to 72 hours according to FB. Chances are if you do it right the first time, it’ll take less time.
For example, say your meta tag to add is this:
<meta name=”facebook-domain-verification” content=”cgg3lpq5evqtsvy4yzeajabq408vd0″ />
Visit your settings page and make sure you have your settings as per this screenshot.
Note that the next update 2.3 will allow you to select facebook-domain-verification from the list, otherwise you just type it and hit enter to add it manually.

Firstly, you need to check that your website source code has the meta tag in there and that it matches what FB is asking from you.
If it’s there and it matches, then you have an issue with Facebook taking long to verify, we can’t do anything about that.
If it’s not there then maybe it’s something related to the plugin.
We’d need:
- A screenshot of your FB page showing the meta tag they require
- Your site url
- If no meta tag present, your settings page screenshot with the FB code.

I have problem same, which is file verification is not found. I’ve been waiting 72 hours and until now it still not found.
I’ve tried with different 2 step, add code META to HTML and upload file HTML to root directory. But file verification still not found.
if you can advice I will appriciate it.

In most cases, waiting did the trick. Or resubmitting, see my steps above. In all cases the issue was either sluggishness on FB’s end or a resubmission (either because of typos previously, or resubmitting prodding FB back into action).
Otherwise, given you’ve tried other methods, I’m wondering if maybe your site is blocking FB for some reason?
Maybe your robots.txt (not sure if FB even considers it) file or a firewall?
