I am using akismet with contact 7 plugin.
Why when I send a regular non-spam message does the subject of the email, when I get it in my inbox read
    [SPAM] subject?

    Hi there!

Akismet nor Contact Form 7 controls what your email program will do to a message when you receive it, so you should check the settings for your email provider or application to see how those are treated and indicate that the message is not spam if there’s an option to do so.

    I hope that clarifies things!

I’m using gmail and it isn’t put in the spam folder.
    The subject line reads:
    subject: [SPAM] site_name “[your-subject]”
It is coming from the contact-7 form subject line but it only started to happen once I added akismet to the form.
    Why is this?
    How do I remove it?

There’s a good chance it’s being added by whichever host handles your email. Their internal spam filter might be marking it as spam but still delivering it to you to avoid false positives.

Neither Akismet nor (as far as I can tell) Contact Form 7 adds “[SPAM]” to the subject line.
