Raul Solis of LRS had love on his mind for spring 2022. He explained over a Zoom call that it was that all-consuming first love in which you can think only about the other person. The idea trickled in nicely for the summertime: The world was opening up, people were going out, and, yes, falling in love again. Solis imagined his fictional couple hitting the city in his rock-and-roll–tinged gear. “I imagine them running around, skating, going to house parties with their friends, and just being inseparable,” he said.

The clothes appeared deliciously romantic too, but with Solis’s punk twist. He took inspiration from 17th- and 18th-century underpinnings and deconstructed them to give them an angsty edge, a look that he described as “romance on an acid trip.” The yesteryear references gave an elevated feel, which was best seen on a red minidress. The piece buttoned down the front and had hulking bishop sleeves that attached to the neck, creating a regal collar. An especially beautiful sheer black blouse had a jolt of roughness thanks to cutouts on the upper arms surrounded by tattered fabric: the type of look that would be seen on a brooding rebel babe in a teen-dream movie.

While pieces like the hoodies with chains piercing them felt odd, Solis’s more tailored clothes were a hit. The signature blazer was still there, now with big, David Byrne–level shoulder pads and a white collar, coolly thrown over a shirt that read Hardcore Lover. That combination of hard-partying teens and romance plucked out of The Lady of Shalott was a beautiful one, and Solis designing from the heart is his best look.
