Roll up your sleeves to build smart cities bottom-up

At FKI for long we ask ourselves how can we construct smart cities connecting sensors and actuators to the net in such a way that we advance towards technological sovereignty and social autonomy. We are aware that the Internet of Things can have an important impact and can imply the loss of privacy and autonomy, but we focus on the tremendous opportunities it brings to improving the social wellbeing of all. That’s why we are working with the community to build a global Internet of Things.

La Comunificadora is the Commons and Collaborative Economy projects support programme by Barcelona Activa, developed by Free Knowledge Institute and others, which launched its second edition a few weeks ago. The projects chosen this time show the scope of La Comunificadora, and how the same programme may be deployed in any other country. Meet FKI at the Digital DIY Final Conference!

Open letter to EU policy makers on community networks - joint press release

March 16th, 2017: Today, more than 25 European Community Networks, joined by over 35 supporting organizations from around the world, are sending an open letter to EU policy-makers. At a time when the European Union is paving the way for a major reform of telecommunications policy, the letter makes a number of recommendations to ensure the continuous development of these citizen initiatives, which provide an alternative, democratic and sustainable way to manage telecom infrastructures and meet the goals of broadband policies.
