Maymay is an arrogant prick who has woven together open source software to create a plugin that has a place in our current oeuvre. The handful of positive reviews attest to his success, but his knowledge of cryptography is admittedly not his strength.

I could not get my encryption key to be accepted by his plugin, and he suggested that I remove the comments subtended to the start of the encryption block. This had no effect. He then told me that my key (in the format he suggested) worked perfectly fine in “his” environment. I downloaded wppgpmail and put this key in and immediately got an error message telling me I needed to put the entire block header and footer in. When I made that change, the key worked in both wppgpmail and this plugin.

John Funderburgh was trying to use a PEM-encoded ASCII-armored OpenPGP public key block generated by Mailvelope as his user’s encryption key without retaining the PEM markers that began or end the block, but failed to understand the difference between a PEM comment header and the PEM marker start and end lines despite my attempts at helping him out. My reward for my time spent reading his emails, answering them, and testing his key for free is, evidently, this extremely vindictive one-star review. I won’t make the same mistake twice.

A software developer can lead a horse to water but cannot make one drink. Horses, however, do not attempt to punish those who lead them to water with one star reviews of their riders.

Mr. John Funderburgh fancies himself an independent developer but is clearly unqualified to be building the sort of websites that legally need to comply with HIPAA regulations, as he claimed to be doing in his email requesting support from me. I would strongly urge people who need web development work done to avoid relying on John R. Funderburgh for such work. He is neither skilled enough to do the job nor emotionally stable enough to send emails without resorting to personal attacks like his “review” here.

Next time, I will try to be a better judge of character so that I don’t end up wasting my time supporting people like John, which I did for free because I am so “arrogant” that I thought someone using my plugin was worth helping out of pure generosity. In the future, I will focus instead on supporting beings more worthy of my generosity than humans like Mr. Funderburgh, like horses, or worms.
