Here's Where You Can Stream Or Buy Every Season Of Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Here's Where You Can Stream Or Buy Every Season Of Buffy The Vampire Slayer
(Welcome to Where to Watch, which provides a clear and simple answer to the question, "Hey, where can I watch this thing?" In this edition: "Buffy the Vampire Slayer.")

Few properties helped define and represent the particular idiosyncrasies of the '90s quite like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" did. The franchise started out with the 1992 horror/comedy film that eventually led the way to the popular television series that debuted in 1997, launching lead actor Sarah Michelle Gellar to stardom and becoming a pop culture sensation in its own right. Fans quickly found plenty to love about the incredibly well-written and fully-realized story of a high...

5 Netflix Shows That We Swear We Didn't Make Up ... Or Did We?

5 Netflix Shows That We Swear We Didn't Make Up ... Or Did We?
I cover entertainment for a living, which means I'm well-aware of most movies and TV shows, even if I'll never watch them. But every now and then, I'll get an email about a show that I am convinced is 100% made-up, just pure fiction, a total lie. The latest example: "Another Life," a Netflix series that boasts it's headed into its second season. Yeah right. I don't think so.

Below, I've rounded up several potential Netflix titles, and I want you, dear reader, to guess along with me. Are they fact, or fiction?

"Another Life," if it's real, is entering its second season, which allegedly...

Stephen Sondheim Says New ‘West Side Story’ Is ‘Terrific’: ‘Spielberg and Kushner Really Nailed It’

Stephen Sondheim Says New ‘West Side Story’ Is ‘Terrific’: ‘Spielberg and Kushner Really Nailed It’
While we’re not going to believe just anyone who says Steven Spielberg’s upcoming spin on “West Side Story” is terrific, maybe we ought to believe musical legend Stephen Sondheim. Probably Broadway’s greatest composer, well, ever, Sondheim also wrote the lyrics to the original 1957 Broadway version of “West Side Story” (with a book by Arthur Laurents and music by Leonard Bernstein). So while he’s never one to “tout my own work,” as he joked on last night’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” he assured audiences that Spielberg’s new movie is indeed excellent.

“It’s really terrific,” Sondheim said of the film. “Everybody go. You’ll really have a good time. And for those of you who know the show, there’s going to be some real surprises.”

Sondheim said that’s because of Pulitzer Prize-winner Tony Kushner, who has received two screenplay Oscar nominations

15 Must-See Horror Anime Movies

15 Must-See Horror Anime Movies
Creating terror with animation means that you aren't limited to our concept of reality. In anime, the body can be bent, stretched, and ripped apart using excruciating and fantastical methods that can only be realized via hand-drawn or computer-generated images. Films such as "Vampire Hunter D" and "Wicked City" realize horror anime's grotesque potential, creating hellish worlds where women become spider demons and eat men alive. Old tropes and well-tread creatures such as zombies are given facelifts and realized in new, repulsive ways that can't be replicated by actors in front of a camera.

There's going to be a lot of gore on this list, especially from director Yoshiaki...

Dune Is Off To The Races At The Box Office, Let's Set Some Expectations

Dune Is Off To The Races At The Box Office, Let's Set Some Expectations
A certain section of film folks have been looking forward to one movie above all others over the last couple of years, and that movie is "Dune." It has so much going for it: beloved source material, Denis Villeneuve in the director's chair, and a stacked A-list cast. Now, after a long wait, "Dune" is finally making its way into theaters overseas this weekend, which means it's off to the races at the box office.

The box office tally for every theatrically-released movie is important, to say the very least. But "Dune" is a special case even under...

Three Jackass Stunts Were Too Dangerous To Actually Make It Into The Movies

Three Jackass Stunts Were Too Dangerous To Actually Make It Into The Movies
The "Jackass" crew have put themselves through all kinds of cartoonish violence in the name of entertainment, but it turns out there were some stunts that went too far even for these gnarly dudes. While playing "Truth or Dab" with "Hot Ones" host Shaun Evans to promote the upcoming "Jackass Forever", Steve-o and Jason "Wee Man"Acuña recently shared the three bits that were deemed too violent to make it into the "Jackass" movies.

On "Truth or Dab", contestants usually either have to answer Evans' hard-hitting, well-researched questions, or eat a wing doused in flaming hot "The Last Dab" sauce. Steve-o and Wee Man don't really stick to...

‘The Lost Symbol’ Review: Dan Brown’s Novels Come Together in Bland Peacock Adaptation

‘The Lost Symbol’ Review: Dan Brown’s Novels Come Together in Bland Peacock Adaptation
It’s been five years since audiences last saw Dan Brown’s character Robert Langdon in the 2016 feature film “Inferno” and it honestly feels like a moment in time that can’t be recreated. It’s hard to describe the events of 2003 to someone who didn’t feverishly rush out to read Brown’s “The Da Vinci Code,” one of the most popular books at the time, equally loved and castigated for its claims about Jesus being married and having children. The eventual adaptation in 2006, starring Tom Hanks, didn’t have as much controversy as the novel, but it did have plenty of its own success.

Now, though, it’s hard to remember what all the fuss was about. Considering the landscape of both books and television, it’s hard not to feel like a TV series devoted to Brown’s character is arriving a few years past its expiration date.

‘Shang-Chi’ May Be Banned From China for Perceived ‘Insults,’ Even as Some Chinese Viewers Praise It

‘Shang-Chi’ May Be Banned From China for Perceived ‘Insults,’ Even as Some Chinese Viewers Praise It
As the days stretch on without any word of a China release for “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” there are increasingly slim odds that residents of the world’s largest film market will get to see Marvel’s first Asian superhero on the big screen.

Those odds have grown slimmer still after jingoistic social media users unearthed content featuring “Shang-Chi” star Simu Liu that they say “insults China.” In the country’s current political climate, the accusations could potentially lead to the ban of the star, the expensive blockbuster he anchors, and even future franchise films in which his character appears.

The lack of a mainland release will be a sad result for Disney, which has so actively courted China for this film and paid tribute to aspects of its rich culture. The particular irony is that most Chinese viewers who have managed to actually see the

Jim Gianopulos’ Paramount Ouster Is Another Sign of the Streaming Times

Jim Gianopulos’ Paramount Ouster Is Another Sign of the Streaming Times
The changing of the legacy guard in Hollywood continues in a business focused on prioritizing content for streaming customers.

Last week, we learned that seasoned studio chief Jim Gianopulos, who for decades has been shepherding big, successful theatrical movies, was being pushed out after four years as chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures in favor of a digital-leaning leader known for purveying lower-cost content aimed at younger consumers.

While the abrupt move shocked many inside and outside Paramount — rumor had it that at some point production chief Emma Watts might succeed Gianopulos — it was unsurprising to learn whom his ViacomCBS bosses Bob Bakish and Shari Redstone selected to replace him.

Nickelodeon CEO Brian Robbins has been steadily rising through the ranks at Viacom and was recently given added responsibility as chief content officer of kids and family content for Paramount Plus, which launched this year as a late-in-the-game entrant to the streaming wars.

Possession Trailer: This Gonzo Horror Classic Is In 4K Now

Possession Trailer: This Gonzo Horror Classic Is In 4K Now
"Possession," Andrzej Żuławski's nightmarish classic about the least-chill divorce in movie history, is getting a new 4K restoration - and there's a trailer to prove it. Starring Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill, "Possession" was released in 1981 – and it was not a hit, at all. However, over the years, a steady cult following has grown up around the movie. This new 4K restoration comes from Metrograph Pictures, and will make its U.S. Premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin, its West Coast Premiere at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles, and will open theatrically and digitally exclusively at Metrograph on October 1 before expanding to theaters nationwide on October 15,...

The Batman TV Spot Teases The New Reboot, New Full Trailer Coming Next Month
We have been waiting for "The Batman" for a long time. Even after director Matt Reeves took over for Ben Affleck, and once Robert Pattinson became our new Bruce Wayne, it took a bit. But the DC Comics adaptation is finally coming out early next year and the hype train is about to leave the station, as evidenced by this new TV spot which, fun fact, contains 0 percent new footage. That being said, its primary importance is hyping up the brand new, full-length trailer that is just around the corner.

Jeopardy! Legend Ken Jennings Will Help Host The Show While They Figure This Whole Mess Out

Jeopardy! Legend Ken Jennings Will Help Host The Show While They Figure This Whole Mess Out
To paraphrase a certain Mad Titan: all that unnecessary drama, all that controversy, and where did it that bring you? Back to the guy everyone assumed would get the "Jeopardy!" hosting gig in the first place, apparently.

At this point, the story of the behind-the-scenes headaches that have plagued the long-running and widely-loved game show since the passing of Alex Trebek have cast an inescapable shadow over the actual show itself. While the hunt for a permanent, full-time host is still ongoing in the wake of the scandal-prone producer Mike Richards' abrupt exit last month, the decisionmakers have apparently settled on...

‘The Girl and the Spider’ Review: Hell Is Your Neighbors in Tragicomedy from ‘Strange Little Cat’ Team

‘The Girl and the Spider’ Review: Hell Is Your Neighbors in Tragicomedy from ‘Strange Little Cat’ Team
The Girl and the Spider” opens with a Pdf floor plan of an apartment layout, and ends with a young woman perhaps vanishing. The tantalizing mysteries in the latest film from the “Strange Little Cat” team of Ramon and Silvan Zürcher never quite reveal themselves in this story about two roommates torn asunder and to separate middle-class flats in Berlin. While the mad entropy of this chamber piece — filled with doppelgängers, women coming and going from rooms, as T.S. Eliot might say — will drive some viewers barking insane, .

One half of the splitting duo (and it’s never clear if she and her now-ex-roommate were ever quite romantic) is Mara (Henriette Confurius), whose odd tactile obsessions puncture the entire film and are immediately announced in the opening scene: she is oddly soothed by the sight and sound of a jackhammer. She hangs around in the wings, picking at a herpes blister,

How Film Festivals Safely Made Their In-Person Return With Covid-19 Precautions

How Film Festivals Safely Made Their In-Person Return With Covid-19 Precautions
With all due respect to the streamers who kept us distracted during the pandemic, movies were meant to be seen on the big screen, in the company of others and, ideally, debated and dissected with fellow cinephiles as we exit the theater.

Cautiously reopening megaplexes have restored that experience to some degree, although film festivals have been a bit more cautious to return, given that they bring together audiences from all over the world — the perfect petri dish within which a virus might spread. Now, after a year of Covid-induced cancellations and online-only backup plans, the world’s leading showcases are back in business. Sort of.

Cannes was the first major festival to offer more than just outdoor screenings (though the Berlinale and Tribeca made valiant efforts to present plein-air alternatives to the public). One could sense that Cannes topper Thierry Frémaux didn’t want to be outdone by Venice

The upcoming Brazilian film has a thrilling premise and some of the biggest directors in modern cinema behind it — here's hoping it doesn't get buried under all the streamer's new content.
