Is this Yul?

German model Luca Gadjus in Prada's New Groove

As you may have noticed… Or did no one notice? Let me point it out, then. I have sort of abandoned my blog. My most sincere apologies for that go especially to Robert. Well… assuming that the author of this blog DOES love fashion and writing, you may have wondered why I would fail to do what I proclaim to love… Have I given all hopes on fashion? Did I turn my back on it by stabbing it till it bled cruelly and undeservingly to death? Or do I have new interests? Did I join a band, i.e. formed my own imaginary Arcade Fire (not from Montreal)? Or did I simply forget myself, as I indulged myself in an emotion-felt journey led by Isabelle Huppert in a movie marathon showcasing the French actress’ work of extraordinaire – back to back and with meaningful English subtitles? Or well… Did I simply grow old become mature, got a life (Ah! Finally!) with much better things to do than to spread badly-spelt grammar-defying words that sound too much like an ad to be true as an expression of the self? Or worse, did I finally become a dark relic without making a mark of worthiness in even one tiny cm2 of earth? Well… Keep those guesses coming!

Paulo Power

Svenska stjärndesignern Paulo Melim Andersson.

Paulo Melim Andersson

Dear Paulo,

Today, good news comes crashing into my little world. Hannah MacGibbon has been sacked. Ha! Please excuse my evil laugh. I just cannot control myself. Although I am sort of fond of Ms. MacGibbon’s designs and am tempted numerous times to purchase those ’70s deluxe looks off the shelves, so that I could fake my identity as tall lean all around gorgeous Brazilian Raquel Zimmermann, my wallet stayed loyal to you I stayed loyal to you.

Now that Chloé is ruined without you, it would be certainly nice to see a “P. Andersson” label – a brand designed not by Pamela Anderson (or do you want to collaborate with her?).

I have been reading so much on your Facebook love page about how other fans of yours keep spotting you in cafés in Paris. Well… I’m jealous! Let’s meet there one day, so I could assist you with your planning and design work motivate you with loving spanks pokes words.

Can’t wait to see M.I.A. (that’s YOU!) coming back with power POWER!

Please be in touch.

xxxo

Yours,
Only Yul

P.S. You looked good @ Acne (with acnes in Acne?)!

Play time

Giedrė Dukauskaitė on the cover of Playing Fashion March 2011

Dear Page One a.k.a. the best best bestest b… b… book store in Hong Kong,

Oh, pretty pretty pretty please, could you stock this please? I would love love love to get my dirty cold computer-mouse hand on all four covers and read it from page one to the very very last page. I know I can read it online, but really, I don’t have the fancy new iPad and well… Since I already suffer severely from this cold right hand syndrome, reading it online would really not do me any good at all, as my personal physicians, my nagging mother and my nagging grandmother, constantly bombard advice me of. It would be really noble of you if you could present me the opportunity to stamp my finger prints on every page of my own copy and sniff every corner of every page like a… sick possessive old dog. Perhaps it might sound like a curious request to you, but I know there are people who thinks like me… well… I know I do!

lo… lo… lots of lo… lo… love,
-love sick Yul-

Marni – all over again!

Marni F/W RTW 2010-11 Milan

Lines Matter

I know I just posted Marni six days ago, but I assure you this is necessary. Well… I was at the Marni store today and the lady totally got annoyed with me in an utterly silently impatient way for touching all the clothes (really! I meant ALL the clothes!) and examining them most scrutinisingly like an odd ball in love for the very first time attempting to visually copy down where every single stitch Consuelo intended. Well… I guess, it could also be possible that I was in an evil conspiracy to leave as much fingerprints in the Marni store to claim them as my very own property by applying the rule of “Dog Territorial Marking”?!? Either way, I did indeed behave rather strangely at Marni. I know it and I can’t help it!

Men in Grey

Ermenegildo Zegna F/W RTW 2010-11 Milan

The Grey Line-Up

At Ermenegildo Zegna, the power of grey proves to be less grave than I anticipated, but really rather great for the gentlemen of today!

Prepare for a Preppy Spring

Marc Jacobs Spring ready-to-wear 2011 Lookbook

Bosch is boss!

Adrian has starred in Marc Jacobs’ lookbook for a few consecutive seasons now and really, I’m not tired of it at all. Every season, he looks great in the pictures. Spring 2011 is no different. The only distortions of the aesthetics in the picture, I thought, are the black crisscross low top sneakers and those mesh see-through tops. While the crisscross pattern is kind of cool, the casual smart wannabe-pioneering dress code formed by a pair of sneakers and a pant suit look still sticks out in a rather out of the ordinary way for me. Furthermore, the pictures did not flatter the shoes by saying: “Hey, guess what? I’m cooler than Thom Browne!” In terms of the mesh top, I felt it was disappointing, because it made Adrian look like he has a non-existent beer belly. If the sexy peek-a-boo effect does not work on a professional model, I think it would be hard for other people, too.

Ajak’s Act

Lanvin F/W RTW 2010-11 Paris

Deng! That Strut!

Angelique Deng or Ajak as she is affectionately known in the fashion industry is definitely one of my favourite girls of the moment. Fall/Winter 2010-11 was definitely the awesome Aussie Sudanese-born model’s breakthrough season, as she scored the likes of Maison Martin Margiela, Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier and Chloé during Paris Fashion Week. However, the one show that marked the most prominent impact in my book of brilliance is no doubt her performance at Lanvin‘s runway show. I just adore the exhilarating way she worked Alber Elbaz’s fully feathery flight of fantasy – with the perfect combination of force of strength and feminine delicacy. Magic!

Hocus Bogus!

Dunhill F/W RTW 2010-11 Paris

Posh Bosch

I went into Dunhill today for a routinely visit – purely out of sincere interest and the funniest slash most tragic thing happened. I showed my concern for wind breakers (or cagoules if I wanna speak fancy schmancy British English) that don’t bare such a big logo, because the intended wearer fears of being robbed when he visits certain shady places for work. Then, she kindly showed me the range of jackets they have in store. Turning them around, oops! A big fat logo plastered on the back.

GASP!!!

I couldn’t help hiding my disappointment.

Kindly, she reassured me: “Don’t worry (you won’t get robbed wearing it)! People will think it is a fake anyway!”

Dead silence.

Tsk tsk tsk!!!

Even though I know she said it out of benevolence, ain’t she lucky that I was the only one in the store at that time, because I know exactly what she told me is a big fat lie and that the 117 years young British-based label is all about years of experience, traditional heritage, continual research, innovation involving applied technology and above all craftsmanship thanks to a certain Mr. Jones and the team. Really – there is no substitute when it comes to quality!

Earth to sales, beware! There is no second chance, no next time.

Balenciagaby

Balenciaga F/W RTW 2010-11 Paris

Rock the blues

Unlike the traditional approach for fall/winter, which leans towards a darker colour palette, it’s a pristinely cool season at Balenciaga this fall/winter 2010-11 and there is really no doubt about it at all, as French designer Nicolas Ghesquière pushes his innovative idea limit beyond its limit in full force. Just by looking at this picture of Hanne Gaby rocking the runway in aqua blues, I’m feeling the Balenciaga vibe spread all over my soon-to-be Balenciaga-clad body. Ahhh… Amazing!

Pleskun Please

Rad Hourani F/W RTW 2010-11 NY

Mudd The Martian + Yes! Yes! Yes! Yuri! ♥

Is it just me? Or is it meant to be this way? Because with their out of this world makeup, I am pretty sure the male models at Rad Hourani’s Fall/Winter 2010-11 runway show in New York were supposed to look slightly frightening – for example, see the very funky Frey Mudd – yet Yuri with pale makeup all over the face manages to look all cute and cuddly to me. Huh? Could someone explain that please? What is this I’m feeling? Is it love? Plain old perversed love?
