"Koala added fiberglass insulation to my attic and did an excellent job. They came over to provide a bid, which was the lowest we received, and provided information and advice on which insulation type and services made the most sense for us. The installation crew was top notch. They arrived on time and spent a lot of effort on sealing the attic, which I appreciated. Overall I was very happy with the effort and the result."

"UPDATE 6/8/2020: I originally called them to paint my kitchen cabinets. The owner came out, and I told him I needed the cabinets painted before I had someone come out to do the painting, floors, etc. Be proceeded to tell me that they could do all of that for me and have it all done in two weeks. To be fair, his pricing was good and they did have everything done in two weeks. Most of the work was great -- no issues. There was a small issue due to a concrete slab in the entryway, that was not even with the rest of the floors in the house. When the new flooring was put down, it did not flow well from one room to another. However, the business owner has graciously been out a few times to review the issue and talk with me, and we have come up with a plan to fix the issue. In addition, I'm having them do some additional work while they are here. As a single woman buying a house that desperately needed updating, it is always difficult to know who I can trust. After meeting with several contractors and getting bids all over the board, I found King Construction on home advisor. I met with the owner Luis to discuss what I needed. I felt so strongly about his work ethic just from that meeting that I took a chance. They completed all of my upgrades in 2 1/2 weeks. They went above and beyond to make sure that things were done right. Luis even had his workers go back and do things differently because the work was not up to his standard. They came in on budget, on time, and I plan to hire them again to do some additional upgrades after I move in. I could not be more pleased. UPDATE 12/16/2019: This has turned out to be a disappointing situation. I originally called them to paint my kitchen cabinets. The owner came out, and I told him I needed the cabinets painted before I had someone come out to do the painting, floors, etc. Be proceeded to tell me that they could do all of that for me and have it all done in two weeks. To be fair, his pricing was good, and they did have everything done in two weeks. Most of the work was great -- no issues. BUT -- the guy he hired to lay the vinyl plank through my entire house created an issue. Shortly after I moved in, the floor started to buckle in the doorways. There was a concrete slab under the old entryway tiles, and the slab was not removed, nor was it sanded down EVEN with the rest of the floors in the kitchen, halls, living room and laundry room. So in every door from the entry to another area, there is a slight decline in the flooring. So when it buckled I called this owner (who was the Gen Contractor). He quickly came and looked at it, the flooring guy came out and they aid they would FIX IT. Flooring guy sent some other guy out who tried to hammer the floor down into place and it did not budge. He told me (as did the Sales rep from a famous home appliance store who came and looked at it), that parts of this floor had been glued down. Vinyl Plank is a floating floor -- it can NOT be glued down or it voids the lifetime warranty on the floor So now the GC tells me it was NOT glued down, I have two people telling me it is. I suggested we pull up the piece that is buckled and check for ourselves with everyone there to witness it. That was several weeks ago and I have not seen anyone since. So now I have an entire house of new flooring that potentially has a voided warranty due to potential install error and I cannot get them to just come to the house the prove me wrong. While like the owner of King Construction and the other work they did, I am NOT HAPPY with how this major issue is NOT being handled. I have asked multiple times to obtain a copy of their license and insurance to no avail."

Frequently Asked Questions
What is insulation?

What is insulation?
Insulation is material that provides a barrier within a home’s walls, ceilings, and floors to regulate temperature and noise. If your home gets overly hot in the summer and cold in the winter, it’s likely not insulated properly.
Insulation efficiency is measured by R-value, which determines how resistant different types of insulation are to heat flow (or energy loss). R-values are measured by inch of thickness. The higher the R-value, the better the performance and the higher the price.
How much does insulation cost?
+
How much does insulation cost?
Our project data lists insulation costs between $1,400 and $6,300, but your final price will depend on the type of insulation you choose, its R-value, and how much you need.
- Fiberglass insulation: $0.30 – $1.50
- Blown-in insulation: $1 – $2
- Spray foam insulation: $0.50 – $2
- Radiant insulation: $0.20 – $1
- Rigid board insulation: $0.25 – $1
Luckily, insulation is one of the best investments you can make in your home—it has an ROI of at least 100%, meaning you’ll likely make back what you spend in a few years or so.
What is insulation made of?
+
What is insulation made of?
Insulation is made of many different materials, which can also impact the R-value needed for energy efficiency.
- Fiberglass: The most common insulation material made from glass. Fiberglass is a skin and lung irritant, so you’ll need to wear gloves and clothing when working with fiberglass insulation.
- Cellulose: Made from recycled paper products, plus borate for fire and insect resistance.
- Foam: Made from polystyrene, polyisocyanurate, or polyurethane plastic. You can also install cement-based foam insulation using rigid foam boards.
- Mineral wool: Made of fire-resistant rock wool, a mix of natural materials, or slag wool, made from a molten metal product.
- Natural fibers: Made from various recycled natural materials, including cotton, sheep’s wool, and straw.
Where is insulation in a house?
+
Where is insulation in a house?
If your attic is unfinished or you’ve ever demolished an interior wall, you might notice batt or spray foam insulation between the studs. Putting insulation between your walls and floors helps keep your home comfortable and your energy costs down. In addition to walls and attics, you can install insulation in your garage, in floors above vented crawl spaces, and basements.
- Garage Insulation: $0.50 to $1.25 per square foot
- Floor and crawl space insulation: $1 to $5 per square foot
- Basement insulation: $1.50 to $2.50 per square foot
- Wall insulation: $1 to $4 per square foot
- Attic insulation: $1,500 to $6,000
- Roof insulation: $1,500 to $4,500 or more
What are the different types of insulation?
+
What are the different types of insulation?
There are a few types of home insulation, and they all are made of different materials— most commonly, fiberglass, cellulose, and foam. Insulation includes these materials in the following forms:
- Loose-fill: Also called “blown-in,” loose-fill is sprayed into wall cavities, attics, and other oddly-shaped areas using special equipment. This insulation is usually made of fiberglass, cellulose, or mineral wool.
- Batts: An affordable insulation blanket best for unfinished spaces, such as between framing, studs, or joists. They come in pre-cut sections suitable for DIY installation and are mostly made from fiberglass, though other versions are also available.
- Rolls: Similar to batt insulation, but comes in rolls. Its make-up leaves less chance for gaps between sections and is more efficient than other types.
- Foam board: One of the most popular insulation types that can be used almost anywhere in your home. Foam boards also have a high R-value.
- Spray foam: Expands and hardens to fill gaps, small and large. Can be closed-cell or open-cell, but closed-cell has a higher R-value, making it more expensive per square foot.
- Radiant barriers: Does not reduce heat flow but directs heat away from the home instead. Radiant barriers are DIY-friendly and affordable, but they won’t be as effective in the winter months.
