Support » Plugin: Two Factor Authentication » It did not work at all

  • In the trial version I tried to make a specific user role to be requested (not forced) to setup his authenticator APP (i.e. FreeOTP), but it did not work at all as the plugin did not exist at all. At least it did not do any damage. It was a pity since this plugin was promising.

UPDATE: After activating the plugin and put the shortcode [twofactor_user_settings] in the front end of the website (in an Elementor block), after a while a long text appeared in the front-end where it should have been, but it did not recognize a the password of test-user I was testing.

Overall, it seems to me too difficult to make it working, and it is a pity since this plugin apperared to be promising as others as well. I gave up.

So far, I got something working only from “miniorange 2 factor authentication”. Sometimes, while testing different plugins of this kind, I even ended locked out my website with no chance to log in again. Luckly I was doing all testing on a staging website and I do recommend doing the same with these dangerous plugins (they either do not work at all – as this one – or lock you out). For the paid version of this type of plugin, I also do recommend to get a full try-before-buy testing, otherwise do forget about them.

    Hi,

Please do post in the support forum – https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/two-factor-authentication/ – if you are having issues.

There is no particular feature to “make a specific user role to be requested (not forced) to setup”, so it is not clear what you were trying to achieve, using which feature; I suspect that you have misinterpreted something.

I found no way to correctly register a test-user using “Free OTP”, and I tried many many times with the results of only getting that test-user locked-out with no way to even try again to log-in, being asked for a one-time-password he does not have (since it was not possible to set his “Free OTP” APP). I also found no way, as an admin, to reset that test-user, should he asks to register again his “Free OTP” APP. I cannot understand how anyone else could make this plugin working not just for himself as an admin, but for the users who can be asked very little in order to properly set their OTP (i.e. Free OTP or Google Authenticator).

Of course; if you cannot set up an app, you have no codes. That’s how TOTP works; you must have a device generating codes.

Log in as that user, or use a plugin like “User Switching” to switch to that user.
