"Thomas is a great guy. We had them clean and repair and line and extend 2 chimneys, remove an old wood stove and install a new one. He and his helper worked steadily, faced and overcame an unexpected problem, and still finished on budget and on time. These guys even helped us stack a small truckload of wood that was delivered while they were at our house. Overall, a great experience and we would definitely use them again. "

A fireplace can be a functional and decorative element in any living room or den. However, without a fireplace insert, it can also be an inefficient and polluting fixture. While an insert is not a necessity to light a fire, it is crucial if you want to heat your home.

Fireplace inserts fit right within the existing firebox of a masonry fireplace. They act as a secondary firebox. Air flows in between the insert's firebox and the steel shell and is warmed. This outer steel shell is what ensures that most of the heat from the fire is delivered to the room instead of up the chimney like a traditional fireplace system. Some inserts even have a blower that pushes the air back into the room.

There are several different types of fireplace inserts to choose from:

  • Wood Burning and Pellet - simple and convenient and requires fewer installation steps
  • Gas and Propane - very popular because you can have a fire at the flip of a switch with no mess
  • Electric - electric units are typically ventless and require no outside ventilation

Installation is typically a job left to professionals especially if you are dealing with gas. It is important to make sure that the insert is installed in a way that doesn't negatively impact indoor air quality and properly vents pollutants outside.
