Working Open

Hi! I am Felipe Schmidt Fonseca, a Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher and PhD Candidate at Northumbria University. My research about waste prevention in smart cities is part of the OpenDoTT project and I'm moving to Berlin with another four colleagues to spend a period in the Mozilla Foundation.

In the first year of research we were based in Dundee, Scotland, and worked on a design research approach to understand our different topics of investigation - all of them exploring trust in the internet of things through open design. During the summer we created concept ideas based on our research studies. Mine are here.

In October 2020 we started our secondment attending training on internet health and open leadership. In coming phases we'll be incorporating ideas of Internet Health and prototyping some of our concepts - ideas that will in the future be turned into prototypes of our research. My individual focus is on waste prevention and smart city projects. I intend to come up with solutions to approach this topic involving technology, governance and policy.

This repository

I'm using this repository to document my impressions of the internet health and open leadership training. I am also reflecting upon my past involvement with open source culture and how I feel about that context nowadays.

Repository structure

  • log - notes about this repo, how it develops and grows (or otherwise)
  • open - first definitions about the project
  • spiral - a meta-discussion on openness and its shapes

Background

This repository was created in October 2020 during the Internet Health Training offered to the OpenDoTT fellows by our host in Berlin, Mozilla Foundation. I will document here parts of my research. I'm also keeping a research blog and a list of links.

Contributing

Feel free to fork this repository and PR with your contributions (even though this is a pretty subjective account, in any case).
