Support » Plugin: Yoast SEO » It’s time to get rid of this plugin

  • Looking back at how this plugin worked a couple of years ago and now, it has been heavily commercialized and my SEO experts tell me that installing this thing will get you penalized by Google.
We see fake notifications on daily basis on the WP admin where these guys want to get you for the premium which is a waste of money + we noticed that the vertical bar as separator is gone after the latest update.
Guess what? They decided abruptly and with no good reason to remove that from the separator list, because they have nothing better to do!
It is time to turn this plugin off and move on to much much better non commercialized ones out there. It’s getting beyond ridiculous now.

    Hi @sharams,

    Thanks for your review.

We are sorry to hear you’re not happy with Yoast SEO and you’ve stopped using it.

First of all, let us disagree with what your SEO experts told you. Could you please elaborate on why they think installing our plugin will get you penalized by Google?

We’d like to point out that we’re always on the lookout for changes in Google’s algorithm, the best copywriting techniques, and other website and SEO-related developments in our field of work. We have an open dialogue with multiple teams from Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, and more. Thanks to these relationships, and the fact that we release plugin updates every two weeks, we can make sure that our plugins keep up with the latest changes in search engines and social media. You can learn more about our product philosophy at this link. Therefore, we’d really appreciate it if you could provide more information about what your SEO experts told you.

As for the notifications, Yoast SEO displays a limited set of them in specific areas in the backend. For example, when you move a post to trash, Yoast SEO will show a notification suggesting you create a redirect to avoid a 404 error on the deleted URL. This notification will go away when you refresh the page or, alternatively, you can close it by just clicking the X icon in the upper right-hand corner. These types of notifications shouldn’t prevent you from using the plugin normally.

Lastly, we’ve removed the | and ~ from the title separator settings in Yoast SEO v17.1 because Google seems to change these to — in the SERP titles actively. If you want, you can pick another separator.
