    At one time Iowa, and in particular meatpacking towns, were one the worst global spots for outbreaks. It’s amazing how Reynolds is now claiming credit for the success of a response that failed people in order to protect profits.

    Just got the official email that vaccines will not be required on campus *and* instructors cannot require masks in their classrooms. So, there it is. Fuck disabled people & people with kids I guess. No word yet on if/how faculty can request to teach online. Sigh.

    How many Iowa children and families must be infected for to finally admit she’s been wrong the whole time?

    AAP is correct. In fact, schools were open here (Iowa City) all year because of masks. It’s the “kids don’t spread” meme that’s caused the most damage, not masks. Without masks or vaccines for kids, kids and parents will get sick and schools will be closed.

    Reynolds could have prevented easily 100,000 unnecessary positives by following CDC guidelines to the letter. Instead she and the IAGOP wrote their own “guidance” based in lunacy and not in science.

    The AAP has put out a statement saying kids ages 2-11 should distance and wear masks until they’re fully vaccinated. Children will be the group with the most restrictive, longest-lasting NPIs, despite being the least at-risk and least likely to transmit.

    Notably, Johnson County (Iowa City) cases have ticked up. Yesterday the county had its worst day in 2 weeks (since May 12). 25% of cases this week were in those >60yo, which is concerning when 92% of seniors in JoCo are fully vaccinated

    Agreed, and our chapter has been speaking out on this issue and others! More members, more voices = more power.

    UNC faculty could join AAUP and start using their collective power to confront and overturn the cowardly actions of campus 'leaders' and Boards of Trustees (& Governors). What have they got to lose?
