    The report by the Chicago Inspector General makes it clear: Not only is ShotSpotter ineffective at combating gun violence, it also generates police harassment, bad stops and frisks, and an erosion of civil rights.

    Similar social media "intelligence" put activists in danger in Maine, after the fusion center shared unverified claims with local law enforcement. This action, among others, pushed legislators in the statehouse to introduce a bill to defund the center.

    Law enforcement put an entire region under aerial surveillance after believing unvetted reports that an "Antifa bus" was headed to town. A pattern is emerging of social media-based disinformation serving as "intelligence" to justify real surveillance.

    ShotSpotter is inaccurate. ShotSpotter is too secretive. ShotSpotter changes findings that support police claims. ShotSpotter enables police to arrest people for scant evidence. ShotSpotter is dangerous. ShotSpotter does not work.
