    Impressive results of this RCT funded, finding that mask wearing, especially surgical masks, reduced covid cases in Bangladesh:

    The reduction was larger in villages where we (randomly) used surgical masks than those where we used cloth masks; in surgical mask villages, we saw a 12% reduction in COVID overall and a 35% reduction among those aged 60+.

    Stripe, 2011. I decided to assign a custom ringtone to PagerDuty. Chose the iPhone's duck sound. Many (many) problems and pages followed. Years later, walking through park, I heard a soft quack. Shivered involuntarily, pulse quickened. And that's how I ruined ducks for myself.

    Watched Tenet last night. Really no idea what the plot was about but it did strike me that "could you shoot a spy movie scene here?" seems to be a reasonable "good urbanism" heuristic. (Tenet: Oslo/London/Tallinn downtowns, Amalfi coast, Mumbai street markets...)

    TLDR, they’re pretty encouraging. The trial (which enrolled and randomized 1,472 people) showed a 1/3 reduction in hospitalization. We’re now interested in funding other properly statistically-powered RCTs to replicate this result.

    All the scenarios assessed in IPCC AR6 WG1 exceed 1.5°C in ~2030. The lowest, SSP1-19, reaches ~1.6°C in ~2050. This means to stay below 1.5°C requires either more aggressive scenarios (perhaps in WG3 March 2022) or 1.5°C is first exceeded & returned to with negative emissions.
