    Glad to join at the White House Cybersecurity Meeting today to discuss how to strengthen private-public cooperation. Google will provide tech training for 100,000 Americans and invest $10B to tackle this important issue that impacts us all.

    This will be interesting to watch develop . The accretive nature of the cloud providers is part of the inherent power in-balance right now, building sustainable moats as smaller entities is far from trivial, but is possible.

    1/ I don't blog often but when I do, I try to create interesting content! Today is launching a new project, , mapping out the services of the Big 3 clouds, AWS, Azure, GCP, and the startups competing against them

    Slightly nerdy confession, when I was a teenager I would sometimes skip school & go to the local library instead. The librarians (generally) turned a blind eye. There was a quiet desk in a corner near the Encyclopedia where I would just pick a volume and read.

    Do you realise what a radical thing libraries are? Publicly-funded spaces where you can access information, countless books, and the internet even if you are homeless? There is a reason why people in power want to convince you they are superfluous and should be defunded.

    This. I'm surprised that more people aren't using the combination of compose & ECS.

    Completely blown away by how well `docker compose up` works with ECS `docker context`. ✅ EFS volumes created & mounted for you ✅ EC2 Load balancers & Target Groups created & configured ✅ ECS Task Groups scaled according to "replicas" ✅ VPC 🪄🪄🪄

    Really large vendors with growing market share: we are committing an *awful* lot of money to solving this problem. It is spending to grow, but spend we will. Other vendors: here is a statement drafted by PR vaguely committing to something with a product pitch in the middle.

    I am currently away from the office and have intermittent access to email. If your email is not urgent I will in all likelihood still reply within 10 minutes due to ineffective self-regulation and an inability to maintain work-life balance.

    So yes, that cookie approval question (informed consent) will go - which is the main thing people might notice. But all companies that trade in the EU, not just tech companies, will have an extra regulatory regime to follow. And extra costs and complexity for doing business.

    It is a choice by the UK govt to introduce legislation to diverge, same as its a choice for the UK govt to stay aligned. But the UK can't complain about other entities enforcing their laws, particuarly when they have given up the seat at the table to influence them.

    UK divergence from is not "a row with the EU", it is a choice being made. Like lots of folks I'm not a fan of how complex GDPR is, but it is the law for a large market, UK can diverge all it wants, if companies want to sell into the EU they still have to comply with it.
